Write a description of a place that you knew well when you were

young

When I was young I used to spend most of my time at

my grandparents’ house. Their house brings me lots of wonderful
childhood memories and therefore it became very important to me.

The house was as big as a mansion and was called

Orchid House. It had a very big garden with creeping vines hanging down
the walls and many other different trees and plants. In the middle of the
garden there was a well with a towering gargoyle which made it look eerie.
It was very old and goes way back to when my great grandma was a baby.

Orchid House had thirteen rooms which were all

expertly decorated. The room that I liked most was in the middle of the
house which was the living room. It had lots of different warm coloured
Asian rugs, a large fireplace that burnt real logs and a plush sofa with
lots of different coloured throws and cushions. On the mantelpiece and
bookcase there were many priceless mementos that my grandfather used
to bring with him wherever he went. My grandmother used to tell me
that in the old days this room was used as a stable.

Apart from doing my homework in peace in their wonderful,

lovely garden I used to spend most of my time in the room which I called
mine. That was because I used to sleep in it and used to keep lots of my
belongings in it. It was beautifully decorated with yellow corn and blue
bells. From the window I could see a wonderful view of the meadow.
There were another five bedrooms, all decorated regally. Two of them
were white with soft touches of pink. The other three had engraving on
walls in a particular beautiful pattern.

The kitchen was my grandmother’s pleasure. She used

to cook wonderful meals and desserts. The kitchen had a rustic look with
brass accessories, wooden furniture and terracotta tiles. The furnishings
were decorated with pretty orchids. The cat used to sleep in the warmth
of the stove oven.

There were three bathrooms. They were all decorated

in warm peach and gold. The tiles had each a scene that reminded me of
Greek gods like Venus. The rooms were quite big so grandma used to
keep them warm by lighting a stove in each one.
The study was where my great grandpa used to write
and read books. It had an enormous library with all kinds of interesting
books. Some of them were very old.

The cellar always gave me the creeps. It was where my

grandfather used to keep his home made wine in the barrels. I had a
frightful experience once so I never again went in the cellar.

The house was about two hundred years old and in just
five minutes it was demolished. Now that time has passed tall towering
apartments where built instead of grandma’s house. Although nothing was
left of it I still treasure my precious memories of the great times I had
at Orchid house.
