True Entrepreneurs are Always True Business Leaders
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more,
do more and become more, you are a leader." John Quincy Adams
Last thirty years have witnessed the most powerful emergence of entrepreneurial activity in the world. Entrepreneurs are now described as aggressive catalysts for change in the world of business. The passion and drive of entrepreneurs move the world of business forward as they challenge the unknown and continuously create the future (Kuratko, 2007).
Entrepreneurs must have the qualities of leadership to take his/her business in a supreme position. Leadership is a function of knowing yourself, having a vision that is well communicated, building trust among colleagues, and taking effective action to realize your own leadership potential (Warren B., 2003).
Second Session: Leadership First Task ID-100321 Entrepreneurship is the process of identifying opportunities; marshaling resources pursue the opportunities and committing actions and resources necessary to exploit the opportunities for long term personal gain (Bose, T.K, 2012). Entrepreneurship may also be defined as the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled (Stevenson,1983). An Entrepreneur is a person who supplies financial capital, an innovator, a manager or superintendent, an organizer an coordinator of economic resources, an owner of an enterprise, an employer of factors of production (Bose, T.K, 2012).
Any type of organization runs successfully when it is piloted by skillful and influential leaders. While leaders motivate their followers, it is not the only thing leaders can do. A good leader can structure the organization in the way he wants. He represents the culture of the organization and most importantly, it has been observed that effective leaders possess a capacity to increase the productivity of the organization (Palshikar K.,2002). Thus the term entrepreneurship is closely related with Leadership.
Entrepreneurs primarily motivated by an overwhelming need for achievement and strong urge to build. They are cunning, opportunistic, creative, and unsentimental. Entrepreneurs are mercurial, that is, prone to insights, deceptions, resourcefulness, overconfidence and over generalizations (Berly J., Collins and Moore, Bird and Barne, No Date). Meantime, leadership takes a strong personality with a well-developed positive ego. To lead, self-confidence and high self-esteem are useful, perhaps even essential (Mcclelland D. 1992). Entrepreneurs must have five traits (Vecchio, 2003):
Risk-taking propensity Need for achievement Need for autonomy Self-efficacy Locus of control
Mark Zuckerberg Chairman and CEO of Facebook.Inc is an example of successful entrepreneur as well as successful business leaders. Started in February, 2004 Facebook was the first social network that connects people all over the world. Zuckerberg has been able to successfully lead Facebook and in the year of 2012 it has 900 million active users worldwide. (Wikipedia)
Entrepreneurs bring something new by taking risks. These tasks need proper direction and guidance to reach its destination. Otherwise these initiatives will never come into light. Thus leadership is a very crucial thing while planning for something new.
Leaders are made, not born. In Business, the role and importance of successful Leaders are beyond imagination. Innovation is creating something new and to make it available to everyone it requires an eligible person. There have been a number of Entrepreneurs in this world but history says only those have got fame, status and money those have been able to successfully lead his/her initiatives. Thus it can be said that true Entrepreneurs are true Business Leaders.
