information like URLs, links, text, and phone numbers. QR Codes The most widely used and accepted two- dimensional code type is the QR Code, but that's not the only kind. You can see examples of other two-dimensional codes on the following slides: QR Codes You can see the distinctive feature of QR Codes in the image below. QR Codes have three square patterns on three corners to establish orientation. Qrafter, an iPad app, can easily scan almost all QR codes. Data Matrix It can be said that Data Matrix is an earlier version of QR Code. They have a lot of encoding similarities, but QR Code is superior in capacity. Data Matrix codes have black lines on two sides to establish orientation. Aztec Code Aztec Codes are much less known and less frequently used than QR Codes or Data Matrix codes. The distinctive feature of an Aztec Code is the square pattern in the middle. Micro QR Code Micro QR Codes have very little capacity, so they are rarely used. QR Code readers cannot read Micro QR Codes as these are different types of codes. Micro QR Codes have one square on one corner to establish orientation. Qrafter cannot scan Micro QR Codes yet. Microsoft Tag Microsoft Tags are proprietary to Microsoft and can only contain URLs. They are in competition with QR Codes, but they do not have the flexibility of QR Codes. Qrafter cannot scan Microsoft Tags; they can only be scanned by the official Tag Reader app by Microsoft. Fun QR Codes Using a custom app called IQR for the Mac, QR Codes can be customized with color and size. Pictures or logos too can be embedded. Other 2D Codes There are other 2D Codes in use, like BeeTagg, Shot Code, etc., but they are commercially licensed, proprietary and/or rarely used.
