Is there art in the natural environment on desktop wallpapers?
But before we answer that question, let us first visualize and define the scope and limitation of
our problem. Looking at the paintings of creative people, the famous statues like the Oblation and Jose
Rizal, the design of our houses and buildings and the likes, are all considered Art. Art can be associated
with different things; things such as creativity, illustration, idea, production, representation and expression.
And they all lead to one thing, that art is Undefined. On the other hand, the Natural Environment
encompasses all living and non-living things, as well as their interaction, occurring naturally without
massive human intervention on Earth. Anything included within the said set, can be considered a part of
the natural environment. And lastly, desktop wallpaper is an image used as a background of a computer
screen. And with all that said, we will now try to answer if we can find art in natural environment on
desktop wallpapers found all over the internet.
Desktop wallpapers are products of the creative
minds of photographers. We know for a fact that
natural sceneries are stationary; they cant be
moved or transferred to other location. Mayon
Volcano will always be situated in Albay, so as
the site of Banaue Rice Terraces be at Ifugao
forever. Whats there is there. Nature expresses
themselves there, but not on other spaces. And
thats where photography enters; photographers
capture the scenery and produce an image of the
natural environment. Just like a painter who has a direct contact with his subject matter, or a writer that
expresses his thoughts through words, a photographer allows nature to express its feelings and emotion
thought photographs. This, in turn, is the first step on how photographers and the art of photography
contribute on creating desktop wallpapers well-enough and creative-enough to be considered art.
Desktop wallpapers are reproduced and distributed by merchandising companies. By distribution,
we mean that it involves companies such as Apple and Microsoft, making photographs of natural
environment available to potential users. They are the reason why what photographers see and feel in the
natural environment are also seen, felt and appreciated by people all over the world through desktop
wallpapers. Art is distributed. Art is reproduced.
Desktop wallpapers are taken on naturally beautiful spots, phenomena, sceneries and landscapes,
found in the Natural Environment. On top of all that, those desktop wallpapers wont be captured,
reproduced, distributed and seen by people, if in the first place, the natural environment does not exist to
be naturally beautiful and marvellous.
Although we may not be able to
personally visit or take these pictures, the
existing pictures used as desktop wallpapers
are proof enough that art exists in the natural
environment and that photographers from all
over the world are witnesses to this, and
even captured them in order to let the people
all over the world appreciate the beauty and
marvel of nature, and on top of that, to
create a timeless reminder.
