8 x QUESTIONS

1. Why did you apply for The BRIT School?
I applied for the BRIT School because I was interested in going somewhere
new, becoming independent and starting to take control of what I wanted
to do as a career. Seeing the new course on offer (Interactive Media)
changed my initial judgement of the school being solely performing arts and
invited me to the website where I fell in love with the course.

2. Did you find applying for The BRIT School straight forward?
The application process is incredibly straight-forward, just one form, four
questions and then waiting to see if you were successful. I received the good
news and everything was sent through for the interview. Arriving at the
school I knew this is where I wanted to be for the next two years.

3. What tips would you give to anyone wishing to apply for The BRIT
School?
My tip would be to really show your passion for what you want to do, the
school doesnt necessarily accept perfected talent, no one is perfect or the
best there is always room to develop and the school nurtures raw talent
and helps you develop yourself not only in your chosen subject but as a
person which is very important in the creative industry. They look for
students that have the potential.

4. What is your favourite subject?
One of my favourite units was Digital Video, I was able to write, direct and
edit a short film with a team of people. It was great fun; with access to the
best technology here it was good quality and got really good feedback.
Achieving a Distinction for this I was able to apply the skills I learnt from
this unit (i.e. how to do call sheets, risk assessments, location release forms)
to when I got my subsequent job on a horror film due to start filming Late
August.

5. What do you like most about attending The BRIT School?
What I loved the most when doing my projects and making my films is that
everyone is willing to get involved. You are making a short film and you are
surrounded by this amazing talent that can contribute to it, for example
music students that can compose a soundtrack, theatre students to act in it
and TTA students to create costumes and do makeup. Everyone helps
everyone and supports everyone. Its just a place of inspiration and
aspiration.

What I also love about the school is that everyone appreciates the immense
talent that surrounds us theres no need to show off we are all here for a
reason.

6. Does studying for a performing arts qualification help or hinder when it
comes to academic studies?
By studying Interactive Media the practical and academic studies is
relatively balanced. The BRIT School welcomes the use of social media and
new technologies, keeping a regular blog of our progress and research is all
presented in dynamic ways which not only is fun to do but presents the
research in a way that the audience want to receive it. Some academic
studies are still very pen to paper but with access to all this technology to
help you its silly not to use it. I also studied Media Studies A Level which
was a lot of traditional essay writing which is still important to maintain
our writing and communication skills.

7. What do you want to do when you leave The BRIT School?
Since Ive left the BRIT School I havent really left, Ive got a part-time job
helping with the design and marketing of the school. I have designed
invitations for the school shows and researched content for the Always BRIT
alumni news. They cant get rid of me that easily. Like a lot of people say
once youve been to BRIT you are Always BRIT. Im soon to be an Assistant
Director on a feature film working with other fellow ex-students;
opportunities like this that I wouldnt have any chance of getting if I didnt
come here.

8. Do you have any other comments?
For anyone thinking to apply, do it. Youve got nothing to lose visit the
school, watch the shows, talk to the people and you will soon fall in love with
the place. Once you start just after a few months you wont be able to
imagine yourself anywhere else.
