10 common sense reasons why Scotland should vote Yes in the

Independence Referendum.
1. Democracy, always getting the government that Scotland votes for.
-A Yes vote will ensure Scotland will always get the government that it has voted for.
Meaning the decisions of Scotland can be made by the people of Scotland and not the
people of Westminster in London. Therefore, no risk of Conservative and potentially
coalition UKIP government that would be hugely unpopular north of the border.
2. A fairer and more equal society for Scotland.
-Independence presents Scotland with a once in a life time opportunity to create a fairer
and more equal society. Unlike the UK which is regarded as one of the most unequal
nations on the planet. Where politicians work in favour of big corporations instead of the
people they govern. Allowing big corporations to pay little to no tax while the UK
government seek to privatise long standing institutions such as the NHS and education.
3. Opportunity to better utilise strong Scottish industries for the benet of Scotland.
-Regardless of oil, Scotland as an independent nation would be one of the richest small
countries in the world. In addition, world renowned industries such as tourism, alcohol
(whiskey), renewable energy (25% in EU) and many more show that Scotland more than
has the capability to be a strong independent country. Evidence of Scotland becoming a
richer nation is backed up by an independent report in the nancial times that states
Scotland would be richer than the rest of the UK in the event of independence (03.02.14).
4. Increase public reengagement with politics in Scotland.
-The Scottish people will benet from increased accountability as the people will have
closer contact with their politicians. This means localised issues can be properly dealt with
by people from their country instead of from individuals from London. Furthermore an
increased engagement with politics is key to Scottish people having a vote and voice that
can make a real difference. Individuals are becoming disillusioned with the current system
as they see it doesnt work and that their voice/vote makes no difference in this system.
5. Members of the No campaign have previously admitted that Scotland could be a
successful independent nation.
-David Cameron the UK prime minister and Alistair Darling head of the the No campaign
were both quoted as saying Scotland could be a successful independent country.
Therefore, this rubbishes all of the No campaigns scaremongering claims about
independence as the people trying to convince us to vote No dont even believe their own
claims. This means both these mens new stance on Scotland independence is through a
fear of losing Scotland and the benets that this nation provides to the UK as a whole.
6. An abandonment of a dated Westminster establishment that only seeks to serve
elite groups and large corporations.
-Scotland will no longer have to adhere to longstanding Westminster ideologies that serve
only to benet elite groups of people. On the other hand, independence is an opportunity
to abandon these ideologies by creating a modern society that puts all of the people that
live in Scotland before the interests of preserving elite groups like Westminster does. To
exemplify this, the ability to break down ideologies of Westminster that seek to preserve
the 1% of the population over the other 99%. Large gap in the distribution of wealth in a
nation like the UK creates an unequal and ill society.
7. A No vote will weaken Scotlands reputation on a domestic and global scale.
-A No vote in September will weaken Scotlands reputation and position on both an
international and domestic level. This decision will exemplifying on an global scale that as
a nation Scotland do not think they are capable of running their own country like many
other independent nations across the globe. Furthermore, Scotland will be weakened
domestically in the UK as the Westminster establishment will drop Scottish issues as we
will no longer pose a threat of breaking away from them in the union. Therefore, the only
way to ensure we dont lose powers and our reputation is through a Yes vote.
8. No campaigns hollow promises of new powers for Scotland if we vote No.
-The No campaign has stated that in the event of a No vote Scotland will acquire new
powers. However they have failed to state what these new powers will be when
questioned on this. Further more, this recent focus on new powers has conveniently arisen
in the presence of an independence debate. This suggests that these proposals are in fact
not genuine and are condescending claims to get people to vote No on September. Once
the No campaign get the vote they want the claims of more powers will be dropped as the
threat of losing Scotland is gone. This evidences that the No campaign knows that the
Scottish people want more powers for their country and in reality the only way to
guarantee new powers for Scotland is by voting Yes on the 18th of September.
9. The No campaign have made up lies to manipulate the Scottish public.
-The No campaign working on behalf of Westminster are not to be trusted. They have
made numerous false claims in regards to Scotland becoming an independent country. For
example, the leader of the No campaign, Alistair Darling, stated before the indy ref that it
was common sense for Scotland to use the pound sterling as an independent country.
However, now he is leader of the No campaign he states that Scotland will not get the
pound even although it is in the best interest of both Scotland and the rest of the UK. This
suggests that currency is being used as a tool to get people to vote No. However, it is
common knowledge that in the event of a Yes vote common sense will prevail and
Scotland will be allowed to use the pound sterling. This is clear evidence of the continued
dictatorship that Westminster demonstrates towards the Scottish people. Even in the event
of a Yes vote the Westminster establishment have shown they can not stop in telling
Scotland what they can and can not do as an independent nation.
10. No to nuclear weapons.
-Finally independence ensures Scotland will no longer be
be used by the UK as a convenient dumping ground for
nuclear weapons. Weapons that we dont want to hold and
that costs the UK billions of pounds to keep. Money that
could be better used to improve important areas to the
people of Scotland such as health, jobs and education.
Areas that Westminster are currently cutting spending from.
Vote Yes on September the 18th if you agree!
