Traditional Values with Modern Relevance
Miss Iliana Skrebneva
Maths / Remedial Educator
The mathematical skills
taught in the early years
are prerequisites for
mastering those at a
higher level. If learners
experience problems
in mastering a
particular calculation
during a particular year at
school, they will not be
ready to or capable of
mastering this calculation in a subsequent year unless they
receive immediate and effective remedial aid.
When learners require remediation in a subject, it generally
means they have missed the core basics of the subject
somewhere along the way. Remediation always should
begin with a review of the foundational basics in this
subject.
With a Masters Degree in Education (Remedial Education)
and 10 years of teaching experience, Miss Skrebneva
offers extra and remedial lessons in Maths from Grade 2 to
9. Her goal is to help learners get back on track and build
essential skills and confidence in Mathematics.

Anwen Cunningham Educational Psychologist
(Educational Assessments and Psychotherapy)
With 10 years of working as an
Educational Psychologist , Mrs
Cunninghams work centres
around childrens emotional,
social and cognitive
development; as well as the
needs of families and
parents.
Play Therapy offers children the
space to process their needs and
problems through play. The therapeutic environment enables
them to overcome obstacles and deal with lifes difficulties
including anxiety, aggression, grief, divorce, bullying or behaviour
problems. During therapy, children may play with toys, clay,
puppets, sand and water. Drawing and painting materials are also
available. Working with parents is also an essential part of this
process.
Psychotherapy is offered to older children and teens. Therapy is
often a scary thing to think about, but for older children and teens,
it can become a refuge to release stress and open up about the
challenges of life. At times, it can be easier to be real with a
therapist than family and friends, although therapy works to
strengthen these relationships. Some of the issues covered
include relationship difficulties, moodiness, anxiety, depression,
self-harm, uncertainty about the future, family problems.
Educational Assessments aim to establish the underlying cause of
a childs academic struggle. The childs language skills,
perceptual skills and concentration are assessed. The childs
reading, spelling and numeracy are also assessed. Other aspects
that are also considered are the ability to focus, complete tasks,
make friends and enjoy the school day. After the assessment, a
report is compiled that includes recommendations on how to
address the concerns. I am also available to discuss the childs
progress with teachers and other therapists if the parent wishes.

improving visual perceptual,

important that difficulties
are identified and
remedied as early as
possible.
For assessment and treatment
of children who have difficulties
in the following areas:

Difficulty maintaining an upright sitting posture;
Delayed or deficient gross motor coordination;
Delayed establishment of dominance;
Difficulty with efficient grasp and control of pencils/pen/
scissors;
Handwriting difficulties;
Letter and numeral reversals and transpositions;
Visual perceptual difficulties;
Concentration and attention difficulties.
The therapists collaborate closely with the teachers and
parents in order to facilitate effective change that is translated
to improved overall functioning in the classroom and at home.
