To the UEXCEL committee,

It is with great enthusiasm I write a letter of recommendation for Ryan Morissette. I had the
pleasure of working with Ryan on his project related to creating a Critical Care/Code Narrator within
Epic. From the start of the project, Ryan showed immense enthusiasm at being involved in creating a
tool that was a major gap for the Emergency Department. Right from the start, he took the idea of the
project and ran with it, quickly emerging as a leader in a group comprised of nurses, charge nurses,
nurse managers and clinical educators from all three UCHealth sites.
Ryan proved to be a wealth of knowledge in the area of resuscitation and critical care that led to
the creation of a user friendly documentation tool that accomplishes the difficult task of giving the nurse
enough content without being overwhelming or distracting. Ryan scrutinized all the content we
reviewed, both in the weekly meetings he consistently attended and on his own time, to produce an
excellent final product. The most crucial piece of his contribution was his knowledge of the most recent
ACLS recommendations on resuscitation and literature on critical care in the ED.
With the growth of our organization, it is a goal of our administration to promote unity in all
areas of our organization. Ryan approached our group work with a patient and affable manner that
embodies the UCHealth model. He embraced new ideas and workflows, recognizing patient care is
paramount and each of our sites has something great to offer.
Once the tool was developed, training to the staff needed to be tackled. The group decided a
mandatory e-learning would be created. This was an extensive process starting first with script
development. Ryan created the script that highlighted the key tools within the Critical Care/Code
Narrator. Once the script was approved by the larger group, a first draft was created by the e-learning
team. Another review and edit was led by Ryan correcting small errors such as spelling and grammar as
well as the larger organization of the e-learning. Ryan understood that the e-learning needed to be true
to life and engaging to the learner as well as interactive. The final product is a well-received, successful
learning tool that is now used for all nursing staff at 6 Emergency Departments across the Front Range.
We have had the Critical Care/Code Narrator in place since November 1
st
, 2013 and in my
opinion, it has been the most successful addition we have made to Epic in the Emergency Departments. I
often receive positive feedback from staff at all locations, thanking the team for putting in place a tool
that was desperately needed for patient care and nurse efficiency. I can say with confidence Ryan was,
and continues to be, the cornerstone of this massive project and it was a pleasure to work with such a
driven, intelligent professional.

Best Regards,
