Honors Geometry

Course Syllabus

Teacher: Mr. Warnock Days: MTWRF Term: Year

Course Description: The content of Geometry is organized such that students will develop
reasoning and problem solving skills. In order to develop reasoning skills, students will study
topics that include congruence and similarity, and apply properties of lines, triangles,
quadrilaterals, and circles. Students will also develop problem solving skills as they study
length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-world problems.
In addition to geometry content, this course also includes numerous examples and exercises
involving algebra, data analysis, and probability. This course is aligned to and exceeds the
Pennsylvania State Standards for 11
th
grade.

Grading Policy: Grades for each semester are determined through assessments and
homework given to students.
Grading Scale
93% - 100% A 77% - 79% C+
90% - 92% A- 73% - 77% C
87% - 89% B+ 70% - 72% C-
83% - 86% B 65% - 69% D
80% - 82% B- 64% and Below E


Final Grade Calculations: Each of the two semesters will constitute 45% of the final grade.
The final exam will constitute 10% of the final grade

Student Responsibilities:

Tardy Students are expected to be in class prior to the bell everyday unless previous
arrangements have been made or the student has a valid, signed pass. 4 Times Tardy = 1
Referral

Respect Students are expected to give respect to the teacher and to their fellow students.
Disrespecting me or other students in my classroom will NEVER be acceptable.

Prepared Students are expected to come to class prepared. Being prepared means the
student comes with a writing utensil (pencil preferred), notebook, textbook, and completed
assignment (if any).

Notes Students are expected to takes notes when given during class. Students who do not
take notes WILL NOT be eligible to receive additional help outside of class.

Questions??Answer??Comment?? Anytime during class you have a question, an
appropriate comment, or would like to give an answer you must raise your hand and wait to
be acknowledged.











Consequences

For behavior that is in violation of the class rules or adverse to the learning environment,
depending on the severity or the frequency of the action, the following actions will be taken:
Verbal Warning
Student-Teacher Conference
Teacher Calls Home to Parent
Referral to administration

I reserve the right to make changes to the rules or consequences at any time throughout the
school year to better meet the needs of the class.

Extra Practice: Anytime you need help or would like extra practice please let me know as
soon as possible. I am more than willing to provide this for you.

Extra Help: Students may come to see me for extra help whenever I am available. When
students come for help they must be prepared. Being prepared means the following:
1.) Bring your notebook
2.) Bring assignment or review sheet (if any)
3.) Have a specific question or questions

Special Note: Coming for help IS NOT an additional math class. Students who choose to not
pay attention in class, not take notes, or come unprepared will be turned away from receiving
additional help.
