IR Solution for MI-17 Landing / Search Lights
A practical solution which AEROMAOZ has preiousl! supplied for allowing Landing / Search Lights to operate
with "oth an IR and isi"le light capa"ilit! is one in which a speciall! designed control "o# is installed in the
aircraft$ %his control "o#& which can "e operated "! either a switch in con'unction with the current operating switch&
or through the collectie& allows the pilot to switch the lights to one (ode or the other$
Unit Design
%he control "o# is designed to function as a di((ing unit& "ut in effect onl! allows ) settings$ One setting will
(aintain the la(p in a isi"le light range and the )
nd
setting lowers the oltage to a leel where the fila(ent e(its
onl! enough heat to "e isi"le to IR sensitie goggles$ %he isi"le e!e can onl! see it fro( er! close distances$ %he
unit is designed to allow for the dispersion of the heat created "! the oltage which is dierted fro( the fila(ent$
%his picture is an e#a(ple of the control "o# preiousl! supplied*
Additional Option
%he unit can also "e designed for operation with a potentio(eter (o(entar! toggle switch will allow for full
di((ing control of the la(ps "! the pilot$ %he potentio(eter toggle switch will "e in con'unction with a "ar-graph
readout showing the leel of the la(ps$

Advantages
%he a"oe solution offers er! distinct adantages$
1. /o change to e#isting lighting infrastructure$ 0ue to the difference in the strength "etween incandescent
lighting and LE0 lighting& especiall! with regard to white light 1LE02s cannot (eet the "rightness of
incandescent lighting.& this solution uses the e#isting incandescent technolog! and does not inole
conersion of the la(ps to LE0 technolog!$ %he onl! change is the addition of the control "o# which
allows the pilot freedo( to decide when and how to use the la(ps$
). 3se of the ,otentio(eter%oggle switch/+ar--raph option allows for different leels of IR strength& as well
as isi"le light& while at the sa(e ti(e showing the status of the la(ps& giing the pilot greater control of
the e#terior lighting$

Inas(uch as there are ) separate la(ps inoled& an alternatie solution is possi"le$ One of the la(ps can "e
conerted to IR with the second re(aining as isi"le light$ Each la(p will hae its own operational controls$
