decade, piracy of cultural, such as music products, movies or software, it has become an
increasing problem in industrialized countries as in developing countries, with serious
implications for local cultures, creativity and economic development.

mentioned, a reduction in the number of jobs and stagnation of cultural diversity, to be an
obstacle to piracy diversification of cultural production access to international markets.
Measures to combat piracy are divided into three broad categories: modernization and
improvement of legislation, making it more effective against piracy; measures to
strengthen the implementation of existing legislation; and information campaigns, targeting
both citizens and institutions involved about the cultural and economic consequences of
piracy and the need to combat it.

OBJECTIVES

Knowing the consequences are known piracy record producers and film.
Specific causes of the existence of the phenomenon "piracy"
Possible solutions are producing to address this growing conflict.

Piracy and counterfeit products is a phenomenon of the era of globalization. Seem to be a
response in the low personal income countries, but not only these, monopolization and
transnationalization of the world economy.
The variety of items that are subject to piracy or counterfeiting is wide: CD audio and
video, textiles, sports shoes,
software, watches and many
more.
The phenomenon of piracy
covers different types of

artists, which makes it difficult to approach and attack. First, the unauthorized copying and
marketing of products that are then sold at low prices to the public the final consumer,
affects both the creators and businesses, the same workers, artists, performers,
designers, technicians and professionals. This causes drop in sales, revenues and profits
of companies producing consequently discourages investment in new production facilities,
job creation and creativity itself.
Despite the need to require the authorization of the author or owner of the copyright for the
exploitation of the work, there are exceptions in the Copyright Act Ecuador. They are
specified in Article 83.
Art. 83. Provided that respect fair practice and does not conflict with a normal exploitation
of the work or cause injury to the right holder, is lawful, limited to the following acts, which
do not require the authorization of the rights holder and are not subject to any
remuneration:
a) The performance of musical works in official acts of state institutions or ceremonies
religious, legal aid, provided that the communication participants do not receive specific
remuneration for their involvement in the act.
c) The reproduction, distribution and publication of articles and commentaries about events
Current and collective interest, spread by media, provided that the source and the author's
name is mentioned, if the original article suggests, and has not been made appeared on
the original reservation of rights.

Next, we will present a story about stop piracy.

In which, the artist Juan Fernando Velasco explained that one of the reasons why the
previous projects against piracy failed was because they were performed only from the
field of artists, while in the current project are all actors including the audiovisual industry,
in addition to intellectual property and informal traders sector.
We know that this is not immediate, but we are happy because this process is
unprecedented, has not been done in other countries like. What I always did was only
suppress the informal traders, taking them out of the market. Now there is an agreement
with all interested parties and we have looked for ways to be the largest force protected by
copyright content distribution.

DATA
In more than 50,000 spaces original product is sold at a lower price in the country.

The first foreign licensed for distribution was the CD "Deep Heart" (Pley music) Colombian
singer Carlos Vives, in his "Deluxe Edition" will start shipping in the next few days to $ 5.99
plus tax.
Fines informal traders are not incorporated into the process of regularization and
legalization of the audiovisual sector will be from 500 up to $ 100,000 as required by the
Copyright Act.

Music piracy has been extended by the development of technology, which makes
available a number of applications
and programs that allow us to
access music without paying for it.

National artists are hurt greatly
because not recover the investment
made for a new album.

Piracy has been for years a very
lucrative business because success
provides us without paying too
much for them.

Today if we reduce rates of music piracy in Ecuador, it is necessary to make
society aware of the consequences that brings this lucrative business.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS BY THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT

The protection of copyright and related rights
is part of the mission of the Ecuadorian
Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI). Within
this broad spectrum, IEPI performs important
tasks, such as those having to do with
protecting the country's genetic resources and

traditional knowledge that have evolved ancestrally diverse communities over these
resources. But the recent crusade undertaken by the IEPI towards protecting domestic
artists, their production, and also to face the distribution, marketing and illegal
consumption of these productions.
Two main actions being ahead IEPI in this regard: first, has advanced a proposal that
seeks to tax, with the figure of compensatory pay, cell phone devices, tablets and
information storage media like pen drives, external hard drives, etc., arguing that such
technological support could be used to download, distribute, store and consume domestic
products illegally or disregard of the law expressed copyright existing in the country;
secondly, on Thursday December 5 was launched in Guayaquil the media campaign "No
molest your own industry" that seeks to raise awareness among traders and distributors of
DVDs and CDs that are not yet added to the regularization process, with which tries to
make domestic production is distributed in these networks is original.
