IT was the silence that made this voyage different from all of those before it.
Not the absence of sound, exactly.

The wind still whipped the sails and whistled in the rigging. The waves still sloshed against the
fibreglass hull.
And there were plenty of other noises: muffled thuds and bumps and scrapes as the boat knocked
against pieces of debris.
What was missing was the cries of the seabirds which, on all previous similar voyages, had
surrounded the boat.
The birds were missing because the fish were missing.
Exactly 10 years before, when Newcastle yachtsman Ivan Macfadyen had sailed exactly the
same course from Melbourne to Osaka, all he'd had to do to catch a fish from the ocean between
Brisbane and Japan was throw out a baited line.
"There was not one of the 28 days on that portion of the trip when we didn't catch a good-sized
fish to cook up and eat with some rice," Macfadyen recalled.
But this time, on that whole long leg of sea journey, the total catch was two.
No fish. No birds. Hardly a sign of life at all.
"In years gone by I'd gotten used to all the birds and their noises," he said.
"They'd be following the boat, sometimes resting on the mast before taking off again. You'd see
flocks of them wheeling over the surface of the sea in the distance, feeding on pilchards."
But in March and April this year, only silence and desolation surrounded his boat, Funnel Web,
as it sped across the surface of a haunted ocean.

Marine mammals mysteriously dying in record numbers along West Coast

More sick and dying animals are washing up on the coast of California, with new reports
indicating record numbers of young sea lions, seals, and other marine mammals being admitted
to care shelters for rehabilitation. The Orange County Register reports that the only facility in the

county licensed to care for marine mammals is now at capacity, and that other facilities all along
the coastline are being similarly inundated.
The normally pudgy and active creatures are increasingly turning up emaciated and dehydrated, a
mysterious phenomenon that the Sausalito-based Marine Mammal Center (MMC) has monitored
across a 600-mile area of coastline that stretches from Mendocino to San Luis Obispo. After
washing ashore, many of these sick marine mammals are too week to even get back in the water,
let alone survive on their own.
"We thought it was going to be a nice calm year; in the last month it's just spiked," stated Melissa
Sciacca, the director of development at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) in Laguna
Beach. Hundreds of ailed sea lions turned up last year as well, but the early part of this year was
mostly quiet, that is until recently. "The rescues just keep coming in at a steady pace."
Sharp uptick in injured sea animals following Fukushima
According to reports, this is only the third time ever that the PMMC has been at capacity with
sick animals, the first time having occurred in 2009 and the second time last year. Like in years
past, the animals being rescued today exhibit the same strange symptoms, almost as if something
attacked or infected their bodies, preventing them from developing normally.
"Once we get them nourished, they do fine out there," added PMMC executive director Keith
Matassa, as quoted by the OC Register. In his assessment, the sea lions' mothers may not be
producing enough milk, or they themselves may be getting exposed to toxins or some other
damaging factor. "It's all circling around food issues."
Dr. Shawn Johnson, director of the MMC's veterinary sciences department, seems to agree. He
told SFGate.com that most of the sick marine mammals being admitted to the center appear to be
starving to death, either from a dearth of available food or from an inability to capture and
consume it. Either way, the animals are suffering and nobody seems to know why.
"The ones we are seeing are basically starving to death," he told SFGate.com. "It's definitely a
mystery. We're hoping it's not the new norm."
Sick, dying animals turning up all across Pacific Coast

Similar events are occurring elsewhere along the Pacific Coast, including in Alaska where
dozens of sea lions, whales and other creatures recently turned up dead. Researchers there
believe that radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster may be responsible, especially
since many of the dead creatures are exhibiting signs of radiation poisoning, including unusual
baldness and skin sores.
A 2011 symposium on Fukushima radiation and its effects on marine life essentially predicted
these outcomes, having modeled how radiation accumulation on sea ice might harm sea lions, for
instance. It explained how radiation exposure in these areas represents an ongoing immunotoxic
threat to these innocent creatures, not to mention the damage it can inflict on the thyroid gland
and skin.
"Marine transported Fukushima radionuclides... may represent a new stressor to the ecosystem,"
reads a poster for the meeting.

How do you get rid of hundreds of tons of highly radioactive water? You dump it into the
Pacific Ocean of course! In Japan, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. has made the painful
decision to begin purposely dumping massive amounts of radioactive water currently being
stored at the destroyed Fukushima nuclear facility directly into the Pacific.
This is being done even though water radiation levels near Fukushima spiked to a brand new alltime record high just a few days ago. The radioactive material that is being released will enter
our food chain and will potentially stay with us for decades to come. Fukushima is an
environmental nightmare that never seems to end, but the mainstream media in the United States
decided to pretty much stop talking about it long ago. So dont expect the big news networks to
make a big deal out of the fact that Japan is choosing to use the Pacific Ocean as a toilet for their
nuclear waste. But even though they arent talking about it, that doesnt mean that radioactive
material from Fukushima is not seriously affecting the health of millions of people all over the
planet.
According to the Japan Times, Tepco released 560 tons of radioactive water into the Pacific on
Wednesday, and Tepco says that for the foreseeable future we should expect another 100 tons of
radioactive water to be released into the ocean every single day
Tokyo Electric Power Co. began dumping groundwater from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant
into the Pacific on Wednesday, in a bid to manage the huge amounts of radioactive water that
have built up at the complex.
The utility, which says the water discharged is within legal radiation safety limits, has been
fighting a daily battle against contaminated water since Fukushima No. 1 was decimated by the
earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.
Tepco said 560 tons of groundwater captured and stored before it entered reactor building
basements was to be released Wednesday, using a bypass system that funnels it toward the ocean
after checking for radiation levels.
Using the bypass, Tepco hopes to divert an average of 100 tons of untainted groundwater a day
into the ocean.

in drastic decline this year [which] could indicate that an El Nio event could occur sooner than
expected, or that other factors are imperiling the once-endangered species. The search for food
mostly anchovies, sardines, and other small, schooling fishes resulted in thousands of
brown pelicans flocking to food hot spots along the southern California coast and as far north as
Washington this May, about six weeks earlier than expected. [...] The survey [was] completed in
late May [...] The scientists found that this year, areas that typically host hundreds or thousands
of nesting pairs held only a few hundred at most, and in some cases zero nesting pairs. Low
breeding numbers are often associated with El Nio conditions, which bring warmer waters to
the Eastern Pacific Ocean. However, this year, the pelicans began showing signs of trouble well
ahead of this summer, when El Nio was predicted to begin. Anderson is not sure why this is
occurring [...] This spring, when the birds arrived at breeding colonies at all, many arrived late.
Of those who nested, many abandoned their nests when they could not find enough food to
sustain their stay.

Survey Findings: At Angel de la Guarda, there were 120 nesting pairs and zero young in 2014,

the island. At Isla San Luis, there were 465 nesting pairs producing 16 young in 2014, compared
with 5,400 nesting pairs and 5,940 young in 2006. At Isla Piojo, there were 70 nesting pairs

UC Davis professor emeritus and wildlife biologist Dan Anderson, who monitored brown
pelicans for the past 46 years: Thats what we call a failure, a bust. The bottom dropped out.
[...] Populations do decline somewhat during El Nio years, but not nearly as drastically as what
we saw widespread this year. During most El Nio events weve seen, numbers of nesting
attempts drop by at least half to two-thirds, and production goes down, too. But it drops from
thousands to hundreds, not to 10 or less.

A terrifying barrage of thunderbolts that killed a 20-year-old swimmer and injured a dozen
more beach-goers on a balmy Sunday afternoon signaled the arrival of an endless plume of
radioactive seawater along the California coast. A reported nine powerful lightning strikes hit
three widely separated areas, injuring a golfer and triggering wildfires on Catalina Island
before moving northward to strike the Los Angeles seaside communities of Redondo Beach,
where a car and a home were set aflame, and Venice Beach, site of the most casualties
In Venice, sport fishermen on a pier and sunbathers at the popular beach recalled seeing a
brilliant flash close-up, feeling their skin tingling, then hearing a massive boom and watching
victims of electrocution drop to the sand. The bizarre disaster is unprecedented in a coastal
region where lightning strikes have been so rare that none were ever recorded in the past.
Venice was hit by four strikes, while Catalina and Redondo suffered at least three shocks each.
This is in a state where lightning rarely strikes; the odds of being struck by a bolt in California
is one in 75 million.
Later that night, heavy rainfall hammered the drought-stricken coastal region, dumping more
precipitation onto Los Angeles Airport (LAX0 in one hour than all the precipitation in the
month of July over the past decade. Were those thunderbolts and downpour simply flukes of
nature or a sign of climate change caused by global warming and an approaching El Nino?
The answer, in short, is none of the above. On the morning after the calamity, my dosimeter
dispelled the possibility of natural causes or climate change, by showing the weather effects are
directly related to radiation-contaminated water from Fukushima flowing southward in the
California Current.

Before discussing the shoreline findings and delving into how radiation triggers thunderstorms,
let me first point out some of the near-term prospects of radiation contamination for this state,
by far the strongest and most innovative economic engine for an otherwise depressed nation:
- bodily exposure while pursuing aquatic sports from fishing to competitions like the US Open
Surfing Championship, now being held at Huntington Beach, pose an ever-increasing health
risk, while other outdoor sports like golf and tennis are also inadvisable;
- marine mammals, birds and fishes along the southern coastline, whose populations are

already diminished by radioactive wastewater from the San Onofre nuclear plant, are facing an
extinction event as is happening in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska;

(RT) The rapid depletion of Earths biodiversity indicates that the planet is in the early stages of
its sixth mass extinction of life since becoming habitable 3.5 billion years ago, according to a
new study published in Science.

Human activity, including a doubling of its population in the past 35 years, has driven the decline
of animal life on Earth, the researchers concluded.
There has been a 25 percent average decline rate of remaining terrestrial vertebrates, and a 45
percent decline rate in the abundance of invertebrates. These losses will continue to have
innumerable impacts on species that depend on the delicate balance of life on Earth for their own
survival.
We tend to think about extinction as loss of a species from the face of Earth, and thats very
important, but theres a loss of critical ecosystem functioning in which animals play a central
role that we need to pay attention to as well, said Rodolfo Dirzo, lead author of the study and a
biology professor at Stanford University.
Ironically, we have long considered that defaunation is a cryptic phenomenon, but I think we
will end up with a situation that is non-cryptic because of the increasingly obvious consequences
to the planet and to human wellbeing.
The Anthropocene defaunation, as some researchers have dubbed this era, is hitting large
animals such as elephants, polar bears, and rhinoceroses the hardest, as these megafauna are the
subject of some of the highest rates of decline on Earth. This trend matches previous mass dieoffs of the Big Five extinction periods.

already dead just north of the United States. But the portents for what this is, is about to hit

An ominous edict issued from the Office of the President of Russia today to all Ministries of the Russian Government
ordering that all past, present and future information relating to Japans Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster now be
rated at the highest classification level Of Special Importance states that this condition is immediately and urgently
needed due to a series of underground nuclear explosions occurring at this crippled atomic plant on 31 December as
confirmed by the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
Of Special Importance is Russias highest classification level and refers to information which, if released, would
cause damage to the entire Russian Federation.
The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster was a catastrophic failure at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant on 11
March 2011. The failure occurred when the plant was hit by a tsunami triggered by the 9.0 magnitude Thoku
earthquake.

The plant began releasing substantial amounts of radioactive materials beginning on 12 March 2011 becoming the
largest nuclear incident since the 1986Chernobyl disaster and the second (with Chernobyl) to measure at the highest
Level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES).

According to this report, MoD assests associated with the Red Banner Pacific Fleet detected two low-level
underground atomic explosions occurring in the Fukushima disaster zone on 31 December, the first measuring 5.1
magnitude in intensity, followed by a smaller 3.6 magnitude explosion moments later.
The MoD further reports that the 5.1 magnitude event corresponds to the energy equivalent in megatons of TNT of
0.0005, while the 3.6 magnitude event equals 0.0000005.
As a comparison, the MoD states that the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 by the United States released
the equivalent of 16 Kilotons = 0.016 megatons of TNT, about the energy equivalent of a magnitude 6 earthquake,
and the largest hydrogen bomb ever detonated was the Tsar bomb, a device exploded by the Soviet Union on 30
October 1961, with an energy equivalent of about 50 megatons of TNT.

Important to note, this report continues, was that the architect of Fukushima Daiichi Reactor 3, Uehara Haruo,warned
on 17 November 2011 warned that a China Syndrome (aka: Hydrovolcanic Explosion) was inevitable due to the
melted atomic fuel that had escaped the container vessel and was now burning through the earth.
The MoD further reports that evidence that these underground nuclear explosions were about to occur began
after mysterious steam plumes were first spotted on 19 December for a short period of time, then again on 24, 25, 27
December, and confirmed by a report Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) published on its website.
Most curious to note, this report continues, is that the United States appears to have had a more advanced notice of
these underground nuclear explosions as evidenced by their purchase earlier this month (6 December) of 14 million
doses of potassium iodide, the compound that protects the body from radioactive poisoning in the aftermath of severe
nuclear accidents, to be delivered before the beginning of February 2014.

With experts now estimating that the wave of radiation from Fukushima will be 10-times bigger than all of the
radiation from the entire worlds nuclear tests throughout history combined, and with new reports stating that
dangerous radiation levels have been detected in snows found in Texas, Colorado and Missouri, this MoD report

warns the US, indeed, is going to face the severest consequences of this historic, and seemingly unstoppable,
nuclear disaster.
And not just to human beings either is this nuclear disaster unfolding either, this report grimly warns, but also to all
biological systems as new reports coming from the United States western coastal areas are now detailing the mass
deaths of seals, sea lions, polar bears, bald eagles, sea stars, turtles, king and sockeye salmon, herring, anchovies,
and sardines due to Fukishima radiation.
As to the American people being allowed to know the full and horrific mass death event now unfolding around them,
this report warns, is not be as the Obama regime has, in effect, ordered all of their mainstream news media organs
not to report it, and as recently confirmed by former MSNBC host Cenk Uygur who was told not to warn the public
about the danger posed by the meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant during his time as a host on the cable

County health experts are "befuddled" about why some West Coast radiation levels are
at least five times higher than usual and 500 times greater than predicted, according to
officials. Government agents, however, continue failing to issue an alert and instead,
advise that the heightened level of radiation poisoning is not unsafe for humans, a grave
rights abuse.
Since July 2012, this reporter has published articles about people on the United States
West Coast at grave risk of radiation poisoning from Japan's Fukushima nuclear facility

United States officials have turned a blind eye to the dangerous levels of radioactive
materials bombarding Americans, according to University of California and Hatrick
Penry's research.
"Despite the fact that University of California and this reporter's tests show high
radiation in the air, water, food and dairy products in this state, the state and federal
governments cut off special testing for Fukushima radionuclides more than half a year
ago," Penry said in 2012.
Now, health officials have been spurred to at least respond when an amateur
videographer with a Geiger Counter proved that radiation levels on a beach near San
Francisco consistently and repeatedly registered alarmingly high levels of radiation.
Officials first learned of dangerously high radiation levels last week, and they sent
their own inspector on Dec. 28, according to the Half Moon Bay Review based in San
Mateo.
"The county inspector measured the beach to have a radiation level of about 100 microREM per hour [1 microsievert per hour], or about five times the normal amount, the
Review reported. "Although the radiation levels were clearly higher than is typical, [San

Mateo County environmental health director Dean Peterson] emphasized that it was still
not unsafe for humans."
A top Russian Nuclear official has said that the Fukushima catastrophe matched our
worst-case scenario and a U.S. Govt email states, "Radiation release thought to be 500
times higher than we calculated."

W. Jackson Davis, a retired professor of biological and environmental sciences at
University of California, Santa Cruz says he is appalled at the lack of human protection
from radiation and that is a threat to health.
A surge of miscarriages was reported only months after the Fukushima meltdown

It also has been repeatedly shown that since the Fukushima catastrophe began, Pacific
Ocean seafood is tainted and unfit for human consumption. [See: Over 462 trillion

In what an Australian reporter called the "unspeakable" reality, she warned that the
entire globe is being radiated by Fukushima.[See: Fukushima now radiating

Despite the above and other data proving lethality of Fukushima to Americans,
especially but not limited to people on the West Coast, Peterson said he was
befuddled about why radiation levels were higher than normal in California and
remained skeptical that Fukushima's catastrophe could be the cause.
This week, Before It's News issued its own alert.
It seems that extremely high levels of radiation are consistently being reached on the
West Coast now WITHOUT RADCON 5 alerts being issued, a Nuclear Emergency
Tracking Center representative told Before It's News (BIN).

The representative advised that this warning must be spread far and wide, according to
BIN.
For the last several months, Before Its News has been tracking RADCON 5 Alerts from
the NETC and believes these to be the most important alerts.
The alerts necessitated email alerts from the NETC to their subscribers, noting that 3month CPM highs had been reached in their areas. This is because those alerts were
halted.
Failing to issue further RADCON 5 Alerts constitutes a human rights violation.
The levels show that HIGH levels of radiation on the West Coast has become the new
normal', Before Its News says.
RADCON 5 Alerts are by no means the most important readings, in fact, RADCON 2,
3, and 4 are much more important and show that radiation levels are rising, and even
spiking, in specific geographical areas. All across the West Coast now, these levels are
rising, some places EXTREMELY HIGH as shown in the video and screenshots below,
and even in locations across the Midwest, South and East Coast, leading our
representative from the NETC to exclaim.:
It seems that extremely high levels of radiation are consistently being reached on the
West Coast now WITHOUT RADCON 5 alerts being issued.
Just as independent experts had advised soon after the Fukushima catastrophe started,
the entirety of North America would be irradiated from it and millions will perish from it.

In a shocking statement, one of the world's leading authorities on nuclear energy Dr.
Helen Caldicott had advised to move out of North America if at all possible due to

Now, Before Its News reports, From San Francisco to Pittsburgh, from Florida to
Washington state, from Washington DC to Las Vegas and all across the country, but
nowhere as much as the West Coast, the CPM counts on radiation levels ARE rising,
often to well over 300 CPM on AVERAGE.

Dismissing all this, Peterson instead noted that many innocuous items could spike the
radiation levels in an area, including "red-painted disposable eating utensils."
He forwarded the matter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California's
Department of Public Health.
If the BP/U.S. government's Gulf of Mexico catastrophic poisoning of humans is
any indication of how the EPA and Departments of Health will respond even to hard
data, it is critically important that the reader of this article forward this matter to every
loved one and independent news source.

Why is there so much death and disease among sea life living near the west coast of North America right
now? Could the hundreds of tons of highly radioactive water that are being released into the Pacific

Ocean from Fukushima every single day have anything to do with it?
When I wrote my last article about Fukushima, I got a lot of heat for being alarmist and for supposedly
scaring people unnecessarily. I didnt think that an article about Fukushima would touch such a nerve,
but apparently there are some people out there that really do not want anyone writing about this stuff.
Right now, massive numbers of fish and sea creatures are dying in the Pacific Ocean. In addition,
independent tests have shown that significant levels of cesium-137 are in a very high percentage of the
fish that are being caught in the Pacific and sold in North America. Could this have anything to do with the
fact that the largest nuclear disaster in the history of mankind has been constantly releasing enormous
amounts of radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean for more than two years? I dont know about you,
but to me this seems to be a question that is worth asking.
Since I wrote my last article, major news outlets have reported that large numbers of sea stars living off of
the west coast of North America appear to be "melting"
Divers were out in Puget Sound waters Saturday to see if they can help solve a mystery. Scientists are
trying to figure out whats causing one species of starfish to die in parts of Puget Sound and the waters off
of Canada.
Seattle Aquarium biologists Jeff Christiansen and Joel Hollander suited up in scuba gear in their search
for answers. Were going to look for both healthy and potentially diseased sea stars, Christiansen
explained. Weve got some sea stars that look like theyre melting on the bottom.
The same thing is happening in the waters near Canada and nobodys sure why.
If scientists dont know why this is happening, perhaps there is an unusual explanation for this
phenomenon.

could be lasting damage from his US Navy service during Japans tsunami and
nuclear disaster came when his eldest son, Darius, was diagnosed with
leukaemia.
Darius, now 15, spent a month in hospital in early 2013, soon after his diagnosis.
I thought I was going to have to bury him, Jackson recalled. The teenager who
aspired to play college basketball now has a catheter in his chest and is too frail to
run the length of the court.
Jackson, a navy information technologist, was stationed with his family at
Yokosuka, Japan, when an earthquake and tsunami knocked out the cooling
systems at the Fukushima nuclear plant in March 2011, causing a triple
meltdown.
He acknowledges he cant know for sure why Darius got leukaemia but Jackson
remains convinced there is a connection to the radiation escape from the
Fukushima disaster and he blames the Japanese electric company, Tepco.

On 25 August, a district court judge in San Diego will decide whether the
Jacksons and around 110 other US navy sailors and marines can proceed with
a $1bn lawsuit that accuses Tepco of failing to avoid the accident and of lying
about the levels of radiation from the stricken reactors, putting US personnel at
risk.
I dont think the navy or the United States government would have let us stay
there in the region. They would have gotten us out of there probably within the
first 48, or 72 hours if they knew then what they know now, Jackson said.

chunks taken out of their bodies, raising concerns about the [parasitic Pacific] lampreys impact
on the spawning migration. Rick Jeffries, a former commercial fisherman who is in charge of
marketing a Secwepemc aboriginal commercial fishery in Kamloops Lake, said more than 50 per
cent of the sockeye have bite marks, some with multiple bites cutting right to the flesh. Were
alarmed at what were seeing, he said in an interview Friday. These are significant
wounds that must adversely influence the sockeyes probability to survive. Lara
Sloan,spokeswoman for the federal fisheries department, confirmed that sockeye in the Thompson
River system this season have been caught with circular markings that could be from lampreys,
but the exact cause cannot be confirmed without testing.
