Transmitting and Receiving

Definition:
Transmitting and receiving is the information process that transfers data and information within and
between information systems. Transmitting is the process of sending data or information and
receiving is the process of acquiring data or information.
Navigation System:
Both transmitting and receiving allow for communication between different devices, these devices
may be components within a single computer or the devices themselves maybe different computers.
The communication could also be between non-computer devices. All successful communication
required 3 basic components, a sender, a medium and a receiver. The sender encodes the message
and transmits it over the medium. The receiver subsequently receives the message via the medium
and decodes it.
For the navigation, the sender is the document that I am trying to add, the medium is over the
Internet and the receiver is the site builder namely Weebly.
Computer and Non-computer Tools:
Hardware for transmitting and receiving includes communications within a computer between
peripheral devices and the CPU via buses, the role of modems (modulation and demodulation), local
area networks and wide area networks.
Transmitting and receiving information processes occur within a computer, between the computer
and its peripheral devices and also between computers using modems and networks.
Within a computer, all the various devices and components communicate using an intricate network
of wires called the bus. The motherboard is a circuit board containing the bus together with various
chips. The computers bus is made up of the system bus (or internal bus) and a collection of external
busses. The system bus is used to transfer data between the CPU and main memory.
External busses are used to transfer data between the system bus and other hardware devices. The
purpose of an external bus is to transfer information between the system bus and some hardware
device.
Modems modulate digital signals by altering the phase, amplitude and/or frequency of electro-
magnetic waves. Modulation is the process of encoding digital data into an analogue waveform.
Similarly, modems reverse the modulation process by demodulating received analogue waves into a
digital form suitable for use by the computer.
Local area networks are used to connect computers and other devices that are physically close to
each other, usually within the same building or within adjoining buildings.
Wide area networks connect computers over large physical distances (Internet).
Software for transmitting and receiving includes communication packages, transmitting and
receiving text, numeric, audio and video and electronic mail and its operation.
If only small quantities of data are to be moved then the speed and efficiency of the connection is
less significant than for large quantities of data, this applies to data transfers within a computer.
Non computer tools for transmitting and receiving includes mail, phone, fax, radio and transmission.
Issues:
Social and ethical issues associated with transmitting and receiving data and information includes
the quality of information received from the Internet, the security of data being transferred, net-
etiquette, global issues, the changing nature of work for participants, the impact of the internet on
business and the current and future trends in digital communication.
