Presentation #1: The Effect of Family & Community Violence on Student Behavior (Kristin
Carter - EDL 598)

Research: Background information about selected topic/ issue.
Statistics graphs that will visualize background information.
Develop Focus: Create two questions to be answered after analyzing research and study.
Literature review: list of multiple resources about the theme (provide articles & authors).
Theoretical Framework
Literature Review Summary: Quantitative & Qualitative date from investigations &
Identify Gaps in the literature: themes, information that might not be accessible while
researching information.
Research Paradigm
List of participants on the study/ people who participated in the questionnaire interviews are
necessary to create a more complete/effective/reliable data. Descriptive statistics, notes,
script, coding, etc.
Data Collection: Observations: non-participant.
Validity and Reliability: Jury team (5 people).
Data Analysis: Correlation analysis.
List Findings of research: use of statistics; create graphs that show data of research.
Interview themes: Formulate questions that will reflect themes of the research. Create &
conduct a survey. Instruments Interview Protocol: record system, tally marks, number levels:
such as 1: strongly agree, 2: somewhat disagree, 3: disagree, 4: strongly disagree, etc.
Discussion: Relationship of study & literature read during research.
Conclusions: Present conclusions of research & survey/study. Express data findings into
context.
Recommendations: Create, list of recommendations that will target how to solve the issue/ topic
that has been researched. Find programs that are already into place to support fix the
problem.

Background of the study: Research
District background information on the topic graphs
Research questions: formulate research guide questions that will be answered at the conclusion
of research. Provide key words definitions about topic.
Literature Review
Theoretical Framework: Select no more than 3
Literature Review: GAPS (list your findings, it should be more than 2)
Summary of Literature Review: Key ideas,
Methods & Designs: Quantitative & Qualitative
Paradigms
Participants: Survey Sample (provide data/information with background info. of survey
participants; score levels use to analyze data/responses).
Data Collection (describe data collection of survey)
Threats to Internal Validity: how the responses of participants might be affected due to an
outside cause. Ways to address issues or internal validity
Survey Findings: list of surveys used, scores such as percentages, median, etc. Show survey
results using visuals such as charts, graphs, etc. that reflect the response of the targeted
questions during research.
Data Analysis: Findings: interviews Provide Qualitative descriptions
Discussion slides: trends if present, what is working? What is not working? Struggles? List
several discussion topics with citations & research information.
Conclusions: Describe & explain results of research & survey.
Recommendations: List of recommendations based on research & data collection. What is next?
What program is showing to be effective? What programs can be implemented? What
strategies will be effective to target
Example Evidence can be used during recommendation.

Previous Students Recommendations
Academic writing use of rubrics when analyzing text. Share writing pieces with classmates
before turning in paper. Major writing assignments.
Keep& save articles, takes notes, time management, major class projects at the end of the
semester.
(Professor Taylor?) Importance on focusing & analyzing articles; highlight text, take side notes.
3 times a week to read & analyze assignments.

Organize & keep articles for future reference. Keep flash drive safe & organize. Create a
digital portfolio. Self assessments need to be completed on time
Highly recommended to use: format APA template in Microsoft work.
In every class, there will be an assignment that needs to be part of portfolio, make sure to save
it in the flash drive as assignments are completed.
