Course Name
American Football 101

Course Description
In this four week course, students will learn the basics of American Football, the history, NFL
leagues, and jobs/careers in the field. The purpose of providing the basics of the history and
game is for the students to feel comfortable participating in conversation and to understand the
overall game of football. The course will be delivered asynchronously through Canvas.

Prerequisites
None

Course Objectives
After this course, the student will be able to:
Define American Football
Identify football players and positions
Explain the rules and objectives of a football game
Discuss the history of American Football
Discuss key figures that influenced American Football
Identify teams in the National Football League
Discuss jobs and careers in American Football

At the end of the semester grades will be assigned based on the following scale:
A = 184 - 200 Points
AB = 178 - 183 Points
B = 164 - 177 Points
BC = 158 - 163 Points
C = 144 - 157 Points
CD = 136 - 143 Points
D = 120 - 135 Points
F = 119 or less Points

Assignments
The student will complete two writing assignments with the topic given by the professor through
Canvas. The paper is to be no longer than two (2) pages, APA style. All work is should meet
the highest presentation standards and be professional in appearance. Grammar, punctuation and
spelling must be correct in all written submissions. Paper is to be supported by peer-reviewed,
scholarly-written articles. Dates for other written assignments are found on the course schedule.
Papers are to follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style, 6th edition.

Discussions
The student is required to complete the discussion questions in each module. Each module
contains five discussion questions. The student will be required to answer three of the five
questions and respond to two classmate's posts by the end of the assigned week.

Quizzes
Each module consists of a 10 question quiz. The student must complete all components in the
module before completing the quiz.
