Title of Activity:
Coat Of Arms


Number of Teams & Group Size:
Minimum 3 people per group
Maximum 8 people per group


Logistics Needed:
A4 Paper
Markers / Pens
Masking Tape


Time Allocated:
15 - 30 minutes


Goal:
Self-Introduction, Sharing of Values


Preparation & Set-Up:
Distribute the A4 Paper and Markers, ensuring that each participant has
received 1 sheet of A4 paper, and 1 marker.


Directions for Conducting the Activity:
1. Inform participants that each of them is to draw a coat of arms on the paper
provided. The coat of arms will have a shield with 4 quadrants, and a banner
below the shield.

2. Within each of the 4 quadrants of the shield, participants are to draw a picture
or symbol of their values, or a value they consider important. Each quadrant
is to have a different value.

3. Finally, the banner below the shield should have a motto which reflects their
approach to life.

4. Participants can make the coat of arms as detailed or as simple as they wish.
They may include words if they want to.

5. Begin the activity. Once the majority of participants have completed their coat
of arms, invite them to write their name on the top of the paper, and use the
masking tape to stick the images up.

6. Invite each participant to share their coat of arms. Alternatively, break
participants into several smaller groups, and invite them to share with their
group about their coat of arms.


Specific Rules:
1. Participants are to draw an individual coat of arms, which includes a shield
with 4 quadrants, and a banner below the shield.

2. Each of the 4 quadrants of the shield should have a picture or symbol that
represents their values, or a value they consider important.

3. On the banner, participants should write a motto that reflects their approach
to life.

Facilitator Notes:
Once the activity has concluded, leave the coat of arms images up. Invite
participants to browse the various images during the break.
