JOSEPH
Joseph Jeffrey Stephen Viale Marello - complete name of St. Joseph Marello
Joseph - came from the name of his grandmother Josefa and his grandfather
Jose
Jeffrey - the name given by his aunt
Stephen - came from St. Stephen
Mare (marello) means SEA
Dec, 26. 1844 the date of his baptism

Nov. 21, 1869 pope pius IX opened the council.
July 1870- Bishop savior and Fr. Marello returned to asti.
May. 17, 1873- death of his father (Vincenzo)
1874- he was appointed chancellor of the diocese of asti.
March. 14, 1878- founded the congregation of oblates of St. joseph.
Oblates- means men who offer their lives totally to god in prayer and in the spirit and practice
of the evangelical counsels.
Saint Joseph- His inspiration in building the congregation. The patron saint of OSJ
Insitituto merchelerlo- a vocational school for men in asti, where the first four candidates lives
a life of strict poverty and intense prayer under the wise and fatherly guidance of their
founder.
The little Friars- the little addressed to the candidates by their neighbors foe their simple and
austere way of life.
July 1, 1881- death of Monsignor carlo savio
1882- He became the director of a home for the aged and the handicapped
Ospizio Santa Chiara- Became the home for the aged , the poor and the handicapped
Nov. 4,1884- Fr. Marello provided more ample quarters for his growing community in the
recently purchased building of Santa Chiara.
Little house of divine providence- the name of the congregation that laid claim laid over the
ownership of Santa Chiara.
Pope leo XIII- the pope who nominated joseph marello as bishop of acqui in nov, 1888
