7. Controlling the Power of Computer over the Internet
• Using DNAT (Destination Network Address Translation) function of the firewall
DNAT also called as PAT or IP Address and Port Mapping. If your eRPower Card’s IP address
behind the firewall that is eRPower Card’s IP is a private IP. You should configure the firewall to
open UDP 9800 port and map the public IP and UDP 9800 port to the eRPower Card private IP and
UDP 9800 port.
Assume your firewall is Linux-based, the network interface eth0 is connected to the Internet and the
eRPower Card’s IP is 192.168.2.254, then you can configure you Linux-based Firewall as bellow:
Iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp -i eth0 --dport 9800 -j DNAT --to 192.168.2.254:9800
• Using VPN
If you can establish a VPN tunnel from the Internet to your office, you can control the power of
computer equipped with eRPower Card just like you do in the LAN.
