German Energy Programme
(IGEN)
(IGEN)

MOU signed between Ministry of

Power and GTZ in October 2006
Major Activities under IGEN are:
a) Support services for implementation of Energy
Conservation Act (BEE)
b) Improvement in the availability and efficiency of
Power Plants (CEA)
c) Clean Development Mechanism in the Power
Sector (CEA and BEE)
Improvement in the availability and efficiency
of power Plants
Mapping of thermal power station
- Target of 85 thermal station (then existed)
- Data collected for 30 Thermal units (28 thermal power stations)
- Report and maps are under finalization for these units.
Establishment of Energy Efficiency Cells at
power station
- 35 No. stations have established the cell.
Establish Energy Audit methodology for
accredited Energy Auditors for Power
plants
- Two German consultant are yet to be posted
under IGEN
Clean Development Mechanism in the Power
Sector CEAs Role
Establishment of CO
2
emission baseline Database for
Indian Power Sector
-India first CDM country to publish such a database
-Database upto 2005-06 already published along
with User Guide.
-Database for 2006-07 under finalization and to be
published shortly.
