IT220 COURSE PROJECT

You and your fellow team members are employees of a consulting firm called Network Solutions.
Your firms responsibilities include determining the following:
What type of network would best suit each particular customer (e.g. peer!to!peer or
client"ser#er$%
&oes the customer need a '() and"or a W()%
What type of network topology will best suit the customer%
Which cabling media will meet the customers needs now and in the near future%
*rands of hardware and software needed by the customer and translating that information into
the number of ser#ers workstations and licenses that will ser#e your customers business
network and wholly support their business.
(s a network administrator assigned to this team you are being sent to the site of a new business
named Retail/Wholesale Sales located in (tlanta +eorgia. ,he business sells #arious retail
merchandise. ,he business sells to both retail and wholesale customers so on any gi#en day they
ha#e customers who -ust walk in off the street as well as buyers purchasing merchandise for
numerous stores. ,hey want to be in#ol#ed in .nternet sales as well now so their network will need
to ha#e .nternet connecti#ity. ,hey also want to ha#e their own corporate e!mail ser#er.
,heir facility in (tlanta +eorgia is a /!story building with a full basement that will use the first
floor for retail and the second floor for management and other non!retail staff such as a call
center for personnel recei#ing calls from .nternet and catalog customers. ,he basement will be
for warehousing in#entory. ,hey really dont ha#e a dedicated ser#er room -ust yet only an area
in the basement where their current phone system and small .nternet connection comes into the
building the &emarc is behind the stairs. ,here are stairs connecting each of the 0 floors on
the west side of the building. 1etail parking is in the front while staff parking is in the back
thereby allowing each to easily access the building.
Your engineering responsibility is to design a fully switched network. You are to detail the necessary
costs in#ol#ed for all aspects of this pro-ect to include all drops runs and e2uipment. ,o price your
network solution your engineering 34W (statement of work$ and drawings will consist of the
physical layout network operating systems application software ,56".6 architecture ser#ers
switches routers (network infrastructure$ and all workstations and printers (user de#ices$. *e sure to
include producti#ity software client operating systems specific software for the #arious departments
such as anti!#irus software and uninterruptible power supplies. Your design should allow for a 789
future growth in the number of employees on the network. (:eep this in mind that when researching
switches;ensure there are enough ports<$.
