Please respond to the following prompts: 1. Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional Development experience. The speaker was Michele Goodson. Her topic of discussion today was Project-Based Instruction and WV History through Integrated Instruction. Project-Based Instruction makes differentiated instruction easy to accomplish. It allows the flow of knowledge to be obtained from many different types of learners. In Project-Based Learning (PBL), classroom management is imperative. To help obtain a risk-free environment, one must use accountable talk where communication is essential. I learned multiple tools to help with this concept. Some of the tools mentioned were: Edmoto, GooglePlus, EBSCO, Prezi, Google (Docs, Spreadsheets, etc.), and Glogster EDC. These tools help with networking with other teachers. I learned how to breakdown the CSOs to fully understand the meaning of every word. The verb in the CSOs is the key word that will help decompose the whole text.
2. Discuss how these key points connect to your content area. These key points connect to my content area because not every student learns ideas in the same manner. Mathematics is a hard subject to convey to different types of learners. Using Project-Based Instruction will ensure that every one of my students will receive access to the material. I learned that lecturing alone will not allow for the retention of knowledge. There are multiple hands-on projects that will help students increase their retention rate of the material. Breaking down the CSOs will help me fully understand the complexity of the well-written math CSOs.
3. Share how you might use this new information in your future classroom. I will use some of the tools Mrs. Goodson discussed to help network myself with other teachers. I will need some help from other teachers in my early stages of my profession. These tools will ensure that I get all the great advice I need to help my students succeed in their academic careers.
