CHARLES VI GATE

Charles VI Gate was built during the Austrian


rule. In those years Belgrade was
reconstructed according to the urban
development plan of the Swiss Nikola Doksat
de Mores. The newfortification was completed
in 1736. The Gate was built according to
designs of Balthasar Neumann, who came to
Belgrade with Charles VI as court architect.
THE VICTOR MONUMENT
On the cliff overlooking the river juncture is
the Victor Monument, symbol of the City, work
of sculptor Ivan Metrovi; the monument is
fenced off and rises to a height of 17.5 m.
THE BELGRADE PORT
This is a place where each year tens of
thousands of tourists come to Belgrade down
the Danube by ship. From the port, the
church tower of the Orthodox Cathedral, built
in the first half of the 19
th
century, on the
order of Prince Milo, in Neoclassical and
Late Baroque style, can bee seen.
THE BELGRADE FAIR
The Belgrade Fair includes 14 fair halls with
100,000 square meters of exhibition and
business surface area, open air exhibition area
and accompanying catering facilities.
ADA CIGANLIJA
THE BELGRADE SEA
Ada Ciganlija is long river island found 4 km
fromthe Sava and the Danube confluence.
There are more than 50 sports grounds there
and it is the biggest sports center in Belgrade,
tucked in greenery and covered with walking
and cycling paths with numerous cafe clubs
and restaurants.

SPORTS AND RECREATION CENTER
MILAN GALE MUKATIROVI
Open-air pools (recreation and water polo),
indoor pools, mini golf, table tennis, sand
volleyball court, open-air bowling alley, sport
halls for basketball and indoor football, tennis
courts and concrete courts.
DOROL
The name of the neighborhood comes from
Turkish, literally meaning "four roads" or
colloquially "intersection (of four roads)",
"crossroads". Dorol was known as the
Danube Town, where during the times of
Ottoman rule, beside Turkish merchants and
craftsmen, lived Jewish, Greek, Armenian and
Serbian merchants. Today, the streets of Dorol
are known for its cafes and night clubs where
you feel that everybody knows each other. The
most attractive is the Strahinjia Bana Street,
where you can party and have a great time all
night long.
BELGRADE FORTRESS
Belgrade Fortress was built on the ridge
overlookingthe confluence of the Sava andthe
Danube. The fortress was erectedgradually over
a longperiodof time, fromthe 1

to18

century,
as a military stronghold. Today, it is a special
museumthat documents the history of Belgrade.
NEBOJA TOWER
The Fortress area alongside the river bank
includes the Lower Town, where in Medieval
Times most of the Belgrade urban zone was
found. According to the description of the
famous Turkish travel writer, Evlija elebija, "it
looked more gigantic and famous than the rest
of the Fortress facilities".

Novi Beograd is the biggest municipality in
Serbia. It is found at the confluence of the
Sava and the Danube. With numerous tree
lined boulevards, parks and lawns, this is the
greenest municipality.
UE (CONFLUENCE OF THE SAVA
AND THE DANUBE)
Confluence of the Sava and the Danbue is a
peace oasis where inhabitants of Belgrade
enjoy leisure time, ride bicycles or have fun in
one of the numerous party boats
restaurants. Museum of Contemporary Art is
hidden by a green belt, and the green area
extends into the Park of Friendship created in
1961 on the occasion of the First Conference
of Non-Aligned Countries, when all
delegations present at the conference visited
this park and planted a tree; after this event it
became the custom that all important guests
who visit Belgrade plant a tree. The last ones
to do so were the Rolling Stones in 2007.
VELIKO RATNO OSTRVO
(THE GREAT WAR ISLAND)
The island is found between the two historical
nucleuses: Belgrade Fortress and Zemun
Medieval Fortification; it is a unique
hydrogeological phenomenon and the former
Danube wetlands remain. It is protected as
the reserve of migratory bird species.
STUDENTSKI GRAD
(STUDENTS CITY)
This biggest student dormitory includes more
pavilions for accommodation of nearly
5,000 students.
SAVA CENTAR
This is the biggest congress & business
center in the Balkans, with a big congress
hall, 17 smaller halls and business premises.
EXPO CENTER
Part of the Expomedia Group chain of
international Expocenters EXPOXXI. This is a
multifunctional space with a capacity for over
2,500 participants of business conferences,
fairs and other events.
SPORTS CENTER 11. APRIL
Serves mainly for recreational sports.
It includes a hall for small sports: (basketball,
indoor football), table tennis hall, bowling
alley, shooting range facility, gym, indoor pool,
open air pools (Olympic-size swimming pool,
childrens pool, non swimmer pool) and open
air tennis courts.
HALA SPORTOVA (SPORTS HALL)
It is found in the very center of New Belgrade.
Consists of a big hall with 3,0005,000 seats
for basketball, handball and volleyball
matches as well as 2 small halls for martial
sports and a gym.
BELGRADE ARENA
The biggest universal 20,000-seat sports hall
in Belgrade for multi-purpose events
(basketball, handball, volleyball, tennis and
athletics). According to need it can become
an ice hall or a hall for cultural events.
