Description of how to implement in the class: (Examples: equipment needed, instructional model*, what students/teachers will do, how
activity will be introduced/concluded, how student learning will be assessed, how assessment data will be used to inform/differentiate
instruction. 1-2 paragraphs).

The materials needed for this lesson are:
-Access to internet and a BrainPop account login
-A way to project or show the video to the entire class
-Construction paper
-Scissors
-Glue sticks
-Video Camera
-Access to a DVD maker
-Blank DVDs

As a hook for the study on the health of your teeth, the teacher will have the students create their own mouth with teeth out of construction
paper. After creating the mouth with teeth, and explaining how many teeth each person has and the different types of teeth, the teacher will
then show the BrainPop video to the class. The teacher will pause the video each time a word is defined so the students can take notes and ask
any questions in order to answer questions later.

After completing the video, the teacher will lead a class discussion about the importance of dental hygiene. The class will review, as a whole,
the different strategies for maintaining a healthy mouth and the different questions you can ask your dentist to learn more about your teeth.

The students will break off into assigned groups with 3-5 students in each group. Once in small groups, the students will then answer a set of
questions on a worksheet about dental hygiene from the BrainPop video using their notes. After the questions have been answered, the
students will then begin to develop a dialogue between a patient at the dentist and the dentist.

Each small group will create their own version of going to the dentist and create questions for the patient to ask the dentist while there.

The students will practice the skits they have written as individual groups and each group will have a turn presenting their finished product
in front of the class for a grade. The teacher will grade the students on their ability to work well in a group, to use the information from the
video to produce a dialogue that highlights the importance of dental hygiene, and the ability to remember the important questions to ask the
dentist and repeat them in their skit. The grade for the skit would be counted as a participation grade and the grade for the worksheet
questions completed correctly would be a content grade.

The teacher will implement the use of technology by video recording each groups skit in order to create DVDs for each student to take home.

* Examples of common instructional models include whole group, teacher-led, student self-paced, small group, or individual learning activities.
