Invitation

It is a great pleasure for me to inform you that the


Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI) will organize
a quadrennial event, the International Oil Palm Conference
(IOPC) 2014 from 17 to 19 June 2014 at the Bali Nusa Dua
Convention Center, one of the famous destinations in
Indonesia. This event is presented to continue the success
of IOPC 2010 which was attended by 987 participants from
21 countries.
IOPC 2014 has three concurrent conferences including
Agriculture & Biotechnology; Product Development &
Process Technology; and Social Economics & Environment.
The Conference will provide update information on the
latest findings, oil palm developments, challenges and
future prospects of the industry. A trade exhibition to
provide opportunities for delegates to view and discuss
current technologies, equipment's and products related to
the oil palm industry will also be held throughout the
conferences. IOPC 2014 is expected to draw more than 1500
participants and trade visitors from all over the world.
Official theme of the IOPC 2014 is 'Green Palm Oil for Food
Security and Renewable Energy' which will focus on the
prosperity of palm oil in supporting food chain and
renewable-green energy. In line with the theme, I hope that
IOPC 2014 will once again come up with excellent strategy
and formulation of palm oil industry to meet market needs
and green-environment.
I, therefore, take this opportunity to invite you to join IOPC

the Conference
Introduction
The International Oil Palm Conference (IOPC), a quadrennial event
organized by the Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI), has
consistently booked increasing success since it was started in 1998.
The 4th IOPC 2010 was attended by 987 participants from 21 countries and
held 136 exhibition booths. IOPC is chartered to bring on the latest results
and development in science, technology in oil palm and its supporting
industry.
The 5th IOPC 2014 will be held in Bali, The Island of Gods, which was chosen
to host the event to provide you an opportunity to enjoy the most famous
part of Indonesia that provides a relax atmosphere to promote networking
and celebrate the achievements of your organization/company.
More than 1,000 delegates and visitors are expected to attend this
conference with 65 booths of exhibition.

Why Attend IOPC 2014


The fast growing oil palm industry in the last 2 decades has evoked an even
complex issues and challenges which demand continuous development in sciences
and technologies of the industry. In fact, since the last seven years the industry has
been faced with the challenges to review the practices in the light of sustainable
issues. This promotes R&D in various aspects searching for ways to improve
productivity, efficiency and responsible expansion of the plantation. There are still
a great potential to increase productivity as the world average real production of
3.5 tons of CPO/ha/year compared to its potential of 7-8 tons.
Recently, a lot of new findings and development have been made through a long
and extensive R&D in many parts of the globe in order to transform the oil palm
industry to meet the challenges. The IOPC 2014 and exhibition will offer the
participants the opportunities to update information of the new developments in
palm oil industry and its closely related industries. Equally important is the
opportunity to promote networking among the people involved in the industry as
well as interaction between clients and suppliers during the exhibition.

IOPC 2014 caters those involved in the oils and fats industry
including stakeholders, planters, millers, scientists, academicians,
traders, economists, policy makers, etc. The Conference will especially
build future networking between participants to exchange views,
ideas, and research interests.

Venue
Conference will be held at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BND CC),
Indonesia from 17 19 June 2014. Located at the worldwide known as
one of the most favorite destinations, Bali, makes it as the best place to
address the conference and leisure as well.

Programme Highlight
A number of activities are organized in which you can participate. They
include conference (oral presentation), poster presentation, satellite
meetings, exhibition, photo competition, golf tournament and gala
dinner.
There will be two international events to be held in conjunction with
IOPC 2014:
1. International Society for Oil Palm Breeders (ISOPB) will have a half day
seminar on 16 June 2014 morning to discuss latest development in oil
palm breeding programme,
2. International Society of Oil Palm Agronomists (ISOPA) will have a half
daya seminar on 16 June 2014 afternoon to discuss latest research
and development in oil palm agronomic practices.

Programme

The conference will highlight progress and achievements in oil palm research and
development. About 70 papers will be presented by selected speakers including by
a number of invited eminent speakers for both plenary lectures and concurrent
conferences.
The plenary lectures will highlight the trend and issues in oil palm industry and
future direction of the development of the industry. Three concurrent conferences
will be held i.e. Agriculture & Biotechnology, Product Development & Process
Technology, and Environment & Social Economics.
In Agriculture & Biotechnology Conference, a number of papers will elaborate the
progress of interspecific hybrids and breeding for resistance, advances in precision
agriculture and fertilizers, findings on insect pests and Ganoderma disease, and
milestones of oil palm insect pollinating weevil, Elaeidobius kamerunicus, in
Indonesia. The papers may discuss either novel technologies, latest research
findings or industrial experiences which highlight:
- Progress of interspecific hybrids for producing new and improved planting
materials in Indonesia and Columbia.
- DNA sequencing technology, molecular breeding, and genomic selection of oil
palm.
- Remote sensing and GIS based technology for oil palm agronomic practices.
- Microclimate changes and carbon emission in oil palm plantation.
- Fertilizer efficiency and trace elements to maintain the optimum yield.
- Management of insect pests, rats and Ganoderma disease.
- The occurrence of low fruit set value in correlation with insect pollinating weevil,
Elaeidobius kamerunicus.
In Product Development & Process Technology Conference, papers will be
delivered in relation with latest information on palm oil mill technology, latest
research to produce oleofoods, oleochemicals, green products as well as health and
nutritional aspects of palm oil derivates, as follows:

Improvements in palm oil mill technology to increase oil yield.


Recent development in palm oil based foods and specialty products.
Green products from oil palm biomass.
Phytonutrients from palm oil and their health benefits.
Technology of POME treatment.

Programme

In Environment & Social Economics, current issues regarding to palm oil


business, policies related to palm oil industry, the profile of smallholders, palm
oil and environment, sustainable palm oil, and market opportunities will be
deliberated in this session, including:
- New concepts of palm oil business development.
- The role of government policy in palm oil agribusinesss sector.
- Empowering the smallholders through partnership.
- The contribution of palm oil agribusiness sector for environment.
- The way forward to sustainable palm oil.
- Market opportunities for palm oil industry in the future.

Posters
About 80 selected papers will be presented as posters during the three day
conference. This will give the opportunity for the interested participants to
discuss in great details of the topics and at the same time share views and
promote networking. In addition to R&D results, the posters may also explain
the newly developed technologies and services to support oil palm industry.

Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI) is organizing the 2014


IOPC Photo Contest to mark the Fifth IOPC 2014. We are welcoming all
photographers to enter our photography contest. The theme of the
photo contest is Oil Palm, People and Environment. This allows the
submission of a wide range of photos taken with palm oil industry as
the objects covering the palm, beauty of the landscape, plantation, the
exotic of nature, the events, technology, palm oil products, people and
social activities involved in the industry.

Information
Timezones
Indonesia has three time zones-Western Indonesia Time which is GMT +7 (covering
Sumatra, Java, Madura, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan), Central Indonesia
Time which is GMT +8 (covering East and South Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, Nusa
Tenggara) and the last is Eastern Indonesia Time which is GMT +9 (covering Maluku
and Irian Jaya). The capital Jakarta is GMT + 7 or 16 hours ahead of US Pacific
Standard Time.

Climate
Just 8 south of the equator, Bali has a tropical climate which is hot all year.
The average temparature hovers around 30C (mid-80sF) year-round and the
relative humidity is about 88%. There is comparatively little difference between the
daytime and nighttime temperatures. There are dry and wet seasons, but it can rain
at any time of year and even during the wet season rain is likely to pass quickly.

Currency
The Indonesia Rupiah is also called IDR. Only Rupiah (IDR) is acceptable at regular
stores and restaurants. Most hotels, restaurants and souvenirs shops accept certain
foreign currencies and credit cards. The IDR is available in note denomination of
100,000; 50,000; 20,000; 10,000; 5,000; 2,000 and 1,000. Coins are available in
denomination of 1,000; 500; 200 and 100. You can buy IDR at foreign exchange banks
and other authorized moneychanger on presentation of your passport. The
exchange rate fluctuates regularly. Check your banks for the latest exchange rates.

Electricity
Electric power supply is 220 volts in all regions. So be careful with your 110 volts
electronic equipment. The sockets will only fit with two pins rounded-tip plugs
(technically known as Type C, E, and F) or use adaptors. Most hotels and many
restaurants in large cities provide internet connections or free WiFi.

Airport Tax
An airport tax of IDR 150,000 is levied by airports on departing passengers on
international flights and IDR 40,000 for those on domestic routes.

Entry

Requirements
All foreigners wishing to enter Indonesia must have a valid passport for
at least six month from the date of arrival, and have proof (tickets) of
onward or return passage. All visitors are required to complete an
Arrival/Departure card, a Custom Declaration, and a Quarantine Form, if
required. These are given out on all inbound flights or upon check-in.

Visa-on-Arrival:
The Indonesian Government extends Visa on Arrival (VoA) to nationals of
63 countries which can be obtained at designated entry airports and sea
ports. Visa-on-Arrival are valid for 30 days and are extendable with
another 30 days to be applied at Immigration offices in Indonesia.

Algeria, Australia, Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria,
Cambodia, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia,Fiji, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland,.Italy, Japan,
Kuwait, Laos PDR, Latvia, Libya, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg,
Malta, Maldives, Monaco, Mexico, New Zealand, the Netherlands,
Norway, Oman, Panama, The People's Republic of China, Poland,
Portugal, Qatar, Rumania, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland,
Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia,
Taiwan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, The
United States of America.
To obtain the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA), travelers from the above countries
must be in possesion of a passport which is valid for at least 6 months
from the date of arrival and the completed embarkation/disembarkation
card they received from their airline. They must also be able to prove
they have sufficient funds for their stay in Indonesia.
Arriving travelers with Visa-On-Arrival status have to go first to one of the
"VoA Counters" to pay the appropriate fee and have their passports
stamped with the VoA before proceeding to the Immigration Clearance
Desk. An official bank is part of the VoA service counters. Payment of visa
fees can be made in US Dollar or Indonesia Rupiah.

Requirements
Free Tourist Visa
Free Tourist short stay visas for 30 days are extended to tourists from
12 countries, namely from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, the
Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Chile,
Equador, Morocco and Peru.
Free entry visa is also provided to delegates registered in a conference
that is officially convened. In addition, tourist visa can be obtained
from every Indonesian Embassy or Consulate. You can visit Indonesia
through certain means and gates, by air via Jakarta, Bali, Medan,
Manado, Biak, Ambon, Surabaya and Batam; by sea via Semarang,

VISA Application at Indonesia Embassies


or Consulates:
Visitors from other countries must apply for visa at Indonesia
Embassies or Consulates in their home country. In addition, the visa
cannot be replaced with any other immigration letters. The visa shall
then be administered by Visa Officer in the presence of the applicant
concerned.

Letter of Invitation:
Committee can provide an invitation letter for those who require for
visa or other necessary procedures. Please be noted that the letter
aims to assist participants for their travel to Indonesia and does not
imply any commitment for the Committee to provide financial
support. Please get in touch as early as possible with the Committee if
you need an invitation letter.

Customs
Maximum items allowed by customs when you visit Indonesia:
1 liter of alcoholic beverages;
200 cigarettes OR 50 cigars OR 100 grams of tobacco;
Reasonable amount of perfume per adult, meaning if you
arrive drenched in perfume the customs probably will not
mind you carrying loads of bottles;
Cameras, video cameras, portable radios, cassette recorders,
binoculars and sport equipments are admitted provided they
are taken out on departure. They must be declared to Customs;
You are prohibited to carry:
- Firearms,
- Narcotics drugs,
- Pornography materials,
- Chinese printing and medicines,
- Transceivers and cordless telephone Films, prerecorded video
tapes, laser discs, VCDs, DVDs must be screened by Censor
Board.
Import or export of foreign currencies and travelers' checks are
allowed. However, the import and export of Indonesia
currency, exceeding 100 million Rupiah is prohibited.
