I have given special preferences for the Bangla Naam in my 2010 checklist: Khan, Reza. 2010. Wildlife of Bangladesh-A Cheklist [From Amphibia to Mammalia] with Bengali Names. Dhaka, Shahitya Prakash, 87 Purana Paltan Line, Dhaka-1000. Pages 34 to 91 of Pp128 COVER BIRDS. This portion is dedicated to the bird lovers of Bangladesh so that they can have ready reference on the Bangla Naam of all birds likely to be present in Bangladesh.
BIRDS Class-Aves
All 2-legged, 2-winged feathered creatures, whether flying or flightless, are birds. They are endothermic or warm-blooded with 4-chambered heart and reproduce through eggs. We do not have running or flightless birds in Bangladesh. Classification follows Sibley and Monroe (1990) barring the arrangement of genera and species within a family that are largely arranged alphabetically. Bird names mostly follow: http://www.zoonomen.net/avtax/frame.html downloaded during 2008. Information also downloaded from the site http://www.bsc- eoc.org/avibase/avibase.jsp?pg=homeandlang=EN to get a few up-to-date names. In case of trinomials nominative race or subspecies mentioned in the checklist it has been done with proper author citation, e.g., Lanius vittatus vittatus Valenciennes, 1826. Also for such species the English name designated for the subspecies have been used. Bird names related important information can be also accessed from International Ornithological Congresss (IOC) World Bird List- http://www.worldbirdnames.org/. For information on Bangladesh species also refer to the Vol-26 of EFFB- Birds, 2008.
