Mutual Recognition of Credits with the University of Cincinnati An opportunity to earn two Masters degrees typically in one year for students admitted to the Postgraduate Scheme in Engineering in 2014-15
The Postgraduate Scheme in Engineering (Pg Scheme) of PolyU is actively working with the University of Cincinnati@ for an arrangement on mutual recognition of credits. Under the proposed arrangement, students joining the Pg Scheme in 2014-15 can apply to enroll concurrently for a Master of Engineering (MEng) programme offered by the University of Cincinnati. The tentative arrangement is outlined below. (a) PolyU is the administrative host of this mutual recognition of credits scheme and students interested in this scheme need to apply to the University of Cincinnati through PolyU. In September 2014, the Pg Scheme will nominate applicants to the University of Cincinnati based on their first degree or other equivalent qualifications. No GRE is required. The minimum English language requirement for admissions to the University of Cincinnati is as follows: (i) A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 for the Internet-based test, 550 for the paper-based test, or 213 for the computer-based test; OR (ii) An overall Band Score of at least 6 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), OR (iii) the equivalent qualifications. (b) Successful applicants are expected to study a minimum of 5 subjects (i.e a total of 15 credits) in PolyU and a minimum of 6 subjects (i.e. a total of 18 credits) at the University of Cincinnati and both universities will recognize the credits earned from their counterparts (subject to satisfying a stipulated level of attainment). The shortest period for completion of the two awards is one year. Typically, a student can study 5 subjects at PolyU in the first semester and then another 6 subjects at the University of Cincinnati in the Spring semester. (c) Upon completion of a total of 11 subjects, and subject to satisfying the academic regulations of the universities concerned, students can qualify for two masters degrees; one from PolyU (MSc) and one from the University of Cincinnati (MEng) in the following disciplines. Both degrees are recognized by the Ministry of Education in China.

Students do not need to obtain the PolyU MSc before they qualify for the MEng degree from the University of Cincinnati. Likewise a student can obtain the PolyU MSc degree by studying 5 subjects at PolyU and credit transfer 5 subjects from the University of Cincinnati, irrespective of whether he/she has obtained the MEng degree from the University of Cincinnati.
