Relief Society: A Sacred Work
The Relief Society message this month is taken from Sister Julie Beck’s talk at the General Re-
lief Society Meeting in October 2009.
Ours is a work of salvation, service and becoming a holy people.
We know that the purpose of Relief Society as established by the Lord is to prepare women for the
blessing of eternal life by helping them: 1. Increase their faith and personal righteousness. 2.
Strengthen their families and homes. 3. Serve the Lord and His children.
Additional Relief Society Meetings
All of our meetings and activities are meetings of Relief Society sisters. For the past number of
years, we have called additional Relief Society meetings home, family, and personal enrichment
meetings. In response to concerns about the complexity of that title and the different interpreta-
tions about the purpose of those meetings, a decision has been made that the names “home, fam-
ily and persona enrichment” will be discontinued effective now. In counsel with the First Presi-
dency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, it was determined that rather than give these addi-
tional R.S. meetings a new title, all such meetings and activities will now be referred to simple as
R. S. meetings.
Under the direction of the bishop, the ward Relief Society presidency can use these meetings to
address spiritual and temporal needs of individuals and families in the ward and to strengthen sis-
terhood and unity. These additional meetings can be valuable supplements to Sunday instruction,
especially for sisters who serve in Primary or Young Women or who are unable to attend Sunday
meetings.
The Relief Society presidency prayerfully considers how often they should hold R.S. meetings and
where. These meetings are usually held at a time other than on Sunday or on Monday evenings.
They are generally held monthly, but the presidency may recommend that the meetings be held

**Additional instruction from the General Relief Society Board not contained in the above talk:
Activities where sisters are invited to sign up for activities and/or crafts which require our sisters to
pay money (i.e. super Saturday) will be discontinued. If an activity or craft is planned in should be
paid from the R.S. budget so all sisters may participate.
Sister Spotlight—Vanessa Kaye
Vanessa has lived in the ward since July of 1999. She’s lived in a variety of places
in Utah and is the oldest of three. She has one brother and one sister. Vanessa
loves to read but doesn’t have much time these days. Her favorite food, which sur-
prises even her, is sushi—yum! She doesn’t have a favorite movie or book and
rarely watches a movie or reads a book twice unless it has been a really long time.
She says “once she knows the ending it takes all the fun out of it!” Her most memo-
rable vacation was her trip to Hawaii with Rod for their 15th anniversary. Her favor-
ite trip with her family was their Mexican cruise last summer-Ole!

your visiting teaching. 1/2 c. shortening 2 c. sugar 2 eggs
Thank you! Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.

Add the following to the above mixture:

1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 1/2 tsp. .cinnamon

Angelcrossingladies. Blend all ingredients. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes in a 9X13 pan, greased
blogspot.com and floured.

Topping:
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. margarine 1/3 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
Just before serving, heat to boiling and pour over individual cake slices while
hot. Finish off with a dollop of whip cream.
