Description
Edward Sellons Annotation to the Sacred Writings of the Hindus was published in a very limited
edition in London, in 1865. Widely condemned at the time, his work draws on several of the texts
that touch on the sexual rites practiced by tantrik sects. This eBook republishes this work
complete with diacritics and extensive end notes in addition to a valuable introduction by Mike
Magee linking Sellons work to the development of tantric sects in the Western world.
Sellon quotes from the Kularnavatantra, which he calls the Culanava, and mentions the
Shyamarahasya, the Anandatantra, the Rudrayamala and other tantras, including Kalika tantras.
Sellon makes some references in this text comparing the Tantrik mysteries to the Greek
mysteries he is of the opinion that a libidinous stream informed not just Greek mystery cults,
but Roman, Egyptian and Babylonian cults too.
