that Bayern Munich still had an incredible 2013/14 season. Under the new management of Pep
GuardiolatheBavariangiantswontheFIFAClubWorldCup,UEFASuperCup,DFBPokalandmost
importantlytheBundesliga.TheydidntjustwintheBundesligathough;Bayernbecamethefirst
clubtoclinchtheleaguetitleinMarchwithanincrediblesevengamestoplay.Twodisappointing
performances against Real Madrid are not enough to undo the success of last season. This
dominanceoftheBundesligamustresultinBayernMunichbeingratedasoneofthebestteams
inthegame,secondonlytoRealMadrid.MarioMandukiwasapotentstrikerinhisownright
buttheadditionofRobertLewandowskifromBorussiaDortmundissuretogivetheBavariansan
offensive boost, continuing the trend of Bayern draining their rivals of their major stars. The
performanceofGermanyintheWorldCupshouldalsohaveapositiveimpactonBayernsFIFA15
rating. They may have lost Toni Kroos to Real Madrid butBastian Schweinsteiger,Philipp
Lahm,ThomasMllerandMarioGtzeallhadexceptionaltournaments.
9.Roma4.5Stars
Att: 78 / Mid: 79 / Def:77 The appointment of former Lille manager Rudi Garcia helped to
reviveRomafromadisappointingfewseasons.The2013/13seasonsawthecapitalssidefinisha
disappointing6thplaceandlosingtofiercerivalsLaziointheCoppaItaliafinal.Thismeantthat
forthesecondseasoninarowtheItaliansidehadmissedoutonEuropeanfootball.Itseemed
likechangewasinevitableandunderthemanagementofGarciatheclubhavereturnedtotheir
winning ways. Last season they finished second to Italian giants Juventus and so will finally be
returning to the Champions League next season. With the current squad of players at Garcias
disposal,anyteamfacingRomainEuropeorinSerieAnextseasonshouldbewary.TheWolves
have talented players in virtually every area of the pitch, with seasoned veteran Francesco Totti
captaining a lineup which includes the likes of Daniele De Rossi, Maicon and the highly touted
KevinStrootman.TheadditionofAshleyColewhowasreleasedbyChelseawillsurelyprovetobe
extremelyusefulintheir2014/15campaignandshoulddefinitelyimprovethat77defensiverating.
8.Liverpool4.5Stars
Att: 78 / Mid: 79 / Def: 79 Liverpools 2013/14 campaign may have ultimately ended in
disappointmentbuttheystillcamewithinahairsbreadthofupsettingthefinancialsuperpowers
of the league like Manchester City and Chelsea by winning that coveted title. Things may have
takenanosediveinthefinalfewgamesbutLiverpoolhavemostcertainlyproventhemselvesto
bea5starcalibreteam.EvenwiththelossofLuisSurez,Liverpoolarestillworthyofmorethana
78offensiverating.TheterrorizingtrioofSurez,SterlingandSturridgemayhavebeenbrokenup
butthedynamicduowhichremainswillstillbemorethanenoughtogivemostdefencesproblems.
ThemidfieldwiththeagingyetstillverytalentedStevenGerrardsupplyingthemoreyouthfullikes
ofCoutinhoandJordanHendersonalsoprovedtobeextremelyeffectivelastseason.Ifyouwere
goingtocriticiseoneaspectoftheLiverpoolsquaditwouldbetheirdefence.Theteamoperated
onascoremorethanouropponentphilosophywhichmeantthattheyconcededmoregoalsthan
thetopfiveteams,despitecomingsecond.ThelossofSurezmaynotbecripplingbutitmeans
they will have to revise this philosophy. The addition of 20million signing Dejan Lovren from
Southamptonismostcertainlyastepintherightdirection.
7.Netherlands4.5Stars
Att: 85 / Mid: 78 / Def:74 Prior to the World Cup the Netherlands who would ultimately
finishamuchdeservedthirdwereratedasbeinglesslikelytowinbybookmakersthanEngland.
EventhefanaticalDutchfanshadlowexpectationsfortheirsupposedlyimbalancedsquad.Asis
reflectedintheFIFA14rating,itwaswidelybelievedthattheexceptionaloffensivemightofthe
Dutchcouldntmakeupfortheirdefence.IftheWorldCuphasprovenanythingitstoexpectthe
unexpected. They may have started the tournament with an attacking master class in their 51
drubbingofSpainbutthroughoutthetournamentthepivotalaspectoftheDutchsidewastheir
defence.RatherthanthepotentduoofArjenRobbenandRobinvanPersiedecimatingopponents,
itwasthedefensiveunitwhichallowedtheDutchtoedgepasttheiropponentsincloselycontested
games.ThefinalthreepivotalgamesofthetournamentfortheDutchwereallcleansheets.The
Netherlands proved that their defence is worth far more than a 74 rating the boost which it
shouldreceiveinFIFA15willsurelytakethemuptotheloftyheightsofbeinga5starside.
6.Southampton4Stars
Att:78/Mid:73/Def:71Southamptonhadaphenomenallastseasonwhichnotonlysawthem
finish eighth but also had the Saints playing some of the most fluid football in the league. This
superb football has meant that Southampton have effectively become the watering hole of the
Premier Leagues bigger clubs, losing Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all to
Liverpool, Calum Chambers to Arsenal and Luke Shaw to Manchester United. These loses have
unquestionably damaged the quality of Southamptons squad but they are still deserving of a
higherratinginFIFA15.TheymayhavelostsometalentedplayersbutasitstandsSouthampton
stillhaveplentyofquality,notleastdangerousforwardJayRodriguez.ThelossofShaw,Lovrenand
Chamberswillsurelyhurttheirdefensiveeffortsbuttheyhaveretainedenoughqualityattheback
to justify more than a 71 defensive rating. Now that the Saints seem to be settled with new
chairmanRalphKrueger,theywillhopefullyreinvestsomeofthemoneytheyvemadeinthisactive
transferwindowinto somenewstarstostrengthenthesquadandensuretheycanbuildonthe
exceptionaldisplayoflastseason.
5.CrystalPalace3.5Stars
Att: 70 / Mid: 70 / Def:68 Crystal Palace were one of the biggest surprises of the 2013/14
season.TheEagleswereevaluatedasbeingtheonlyteamcertaintogodownbybookmakers.The
onlypeoplewhobelievedthesoutheastLondonclubcouldremaininthetopflightweretheclubs
amazingfanswhoplayednosmallpartintheclubsastoundingseason.NotonlydidtheEagles
underthemasterfulmanagementofTonyPulismanagetoavoidrelegationbuttheydiditwith
points to spare, finishing in 11
th
place. The ratingsin FIFA 15 should reflect Palaces status as an
established Premier League club no longer the leagues whipping boys. The 3.5 star rating
currently puts Palace as the equals of several Championship clubs which quite clearly is not the
case.Inthelatterhalfoftheseasontheclubbuiltupareputationasateamnotoriouslyhardto
takepointsfrom,particularlywhenplayingathome.ThefactthatPalacesdefencehasbeenlisted
astheirweakestareaisrathersurprising.ThelikesofJoelWard,DeanMoxeyandDamienDelaney
allplayedvaliantlyindefencewhilegrittydefensivemidfieldersMileJedinakandKagishoDikgacoi
putfearintotheheartsofoppositionforwards.ThedefendingqualitiesofCrystalPalaceprovedto
betheirstrongestquality(despitetheFIFA14rating)whiletheystruggledmoreontheoffensive
end.TheadditionoftheexplosiveFraizerCampbellfromCardiffCityissuretohelptheEaglesgoal
scoringwoes.
4.Everton4.5Stars
Att:76/Mid:76/Def:77Evertonfansweredismayedwhentheannouncementwasmadethat
DavidMoyeswouldbeendinghis11yeartenureattheclubforthevacantUnitedjob.TheToffees
ultimatelyhadthelastlaughasRobertoMartnezguidedtheclubtoafifthplacefinishaheadof
ManchesterUnited.Despitenothavingmadeanymajorsignings,Martnezhadthesquadfiringon
all cylinders by utilising the loan market. Romelu Lukaku (on loan from Chelsea) finished as
Evertonstopscorerwith16goalsinallcompetitionswhileGarethBarry(onloanfromManchester
City) provided some essential experience in midfield. Everton have already signed Barry on a
permanent basis and Martnez has hinted that a deal for Lukaku is in the pipeline. Several new
promising young talents emerged last season who should give Evertons FIFA 15 rating a boost.
Players like Ross Barkley, Josh Stones and James McCarthy (who was signed from Wigan) all
enriched Martnez squad greatly. They may have narrowly missed out on Champions League
footballbuttheexceptional2013/14seasonatGoodisonParkshoulddefinitelymeanthatEverton
becomehigherratedinEASportspopulargame.
3.Chile4Star
Att:78/Mid:76/Def:72Anexitintheroundof16bynomeansdoesChilesexcellentWorldCup
campaignjustice.Notonlydidtheycomeclosetoknockingthehostsoutofthecompetitioninthe
firstknockoutstagebuttheyplayedmesmerising,offenceorientatedfootballwhichrightlymade
themafanfavourite.NotonlydidtheyunpickatoughAustraliansidebuttheycomfortablyeased
theirwaypastformerchampionsSpainandinsodoingknockedthemoutofthecompetition.The
grittyVidalwasapillarinmidfield,usinghisaccuratepassestosupplythelikesofAlexisSanchez,
PinillaandIsla.TheChileansidealwayslookeddangerousandmanyweresadtoseethemexitthe
competitionatarelativelyearlystage.Attimestheiroffensivestyleleftthemopenatthebackbut
ClaudioBravowasalmostalwaysonhandtoprotectthegoal.Indeeditwasthankstotheheroics
oftheChileankeeperthathewassignedbyBarcelonaonafouryeardeal,handpickedtobeVictor
Valdes successor. Chiles rating as a justaboveaverage international team on FIFA 14 is by no
meansaccurate.TheywereinchesawayfrombeatingBrazilandwhoknowshowtheywouldhave
fared against Colombia and Germany. In FIFA 15 the South American team should be honoured
withamuchhigherrating.

rememberedasadisappointingone.Whenitwasannouncedthattheflamboyantmanagerwould
be returning to Stamford Bridge people werent discussing whether or not Chelsea would be
addingtotheiralreadyimpressivetrophycabinetbutratherhowmanypiecesofsilverwarethey
wouldwinultimatelytheywouldwinnothing.Basedonthisforgettableprecedingseason,why
then should Chelsea receive a higher rating in FIFA 15? The answer is that, in typical Roman
Abramovichstyle,Chelseahavebeenflashingthecashandhaveaddedsomeexcitingplayersto
their already stacked squad. In recent seasons the Blues had suffered from a lack of offensive
potencywhichmeantthatmostoftheirgoalscamefrommidfield.However,withthesigningof
32milliongoalscoringmachineDiegoCosta,Chelseaareboundtolookmorevenomouswhen
attacking. Additionally we recently learnt that club legend Didier Drogba would be returning to
Stamford Bridge as a free transfer. Though now 36yearsold, Didier has proven that he can still
scoregoalsdespitethelossofmuchofhispace.ThesigningofCescFabregasonafiveyearcontract
meansthattheywillalsohaveanaudaciouslytalentedplaymakerinmidfieldwhowillbeableto
tap into the pace of Hazard and Willian on the wings, as well as linking up with newly signed

five amazing performances the Spanish superpower had seen enough to pay 80million for
ColombianstarJamesRodrguez.The23yearoldsrisetobecomethelateststatussymbolinworld
football may have been quick but he will most certainly add to Real Madrids attacking squad.
SimilarlyToniKroosisboundtoscoreaplethoraofgoalsinthewhiteshirtoftheSpanishside
the25millionGermansigningisknownforhisdestructivelongshot.Itsfairtosaythatwiththese
additions Real Madridarguably have themost potentoffense of any squad in the history of the
game. Making these claims really isnt resorting to hyperbole as so many of the squad are now
capableofscoringdoublefiguregoalsacrossaseasonthatitwilltakeagranitedefencetoresist
RealMadrid.
