A couple of important and signicant events in the life
of the Parish over the last few weeks are worthy of
menon as we get closer to the end of yet another
month.

On Friday 16th May, over 80 parishioners gathered at
the Reef Bar n Grill Restaurant Forster for the Annual
Parish Dinner. It was a wonderful night of fellowship
and fun (despite protests about the Trivia quesons!)
and I think that everyone in aendance enjoyed the
evening. Our special guest speaker, Brendan Guiney
from Mid Coast Water, gave a very informave
presentaon on the role that MCW is undertaking in
regard to twinning with other water ulies in
naons of the Pacic Ocean. The assistance provided
by MCW in helping developing naons in terms of
water quality and security is truly impressive, and
something for which they should be recognised and
congratulated.

Last Thursday night saw the ocial opening of the
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden in Holy Name
Parish School. Again it was a wonderful community
event with lots of members of the school, parish and
wider community present to mark the night. For those
who arent aware, or who havent seen the Garden as
yet, this project aims to help the students of our
school get excited about healthy food by growing and
cooking fresh food from their own garden. It is a
marvellous project, and congratulaons to the
members of the School sta who have made this a
possibility.

With so much discussion in our communies about

acquaint ourselves with the teachings of the Church
and thereby engage in the discussion, guided by

To become involved in family or neighbourhood

The joy of the Gospel is such that it cannot be taken
away from us by anyone or anything (cf. Jn 16:22). The
evils of our world and those of the Church must
not be excuses for diminishing our commitment and
our fervour. Let us look upon them as challenges
which can help us to grow. With the eyes of faith, we
can see the light which the Holy Spirit always radiates
in the midst of darkness, never forgeng that where
sin increased, grace has abounded all the more (Rom
5:20). Our faith is challenged to discern how wine can
come from water and how wheat can grow in the
midst of weeds. Fiy years aer the Second Vacan
Council, we are distressed by the troubles of our age
and far from naive opmism; yet the fact that we are
more realisc must not mean that we are any less
trusng in the Spirit or less generous. In this sense, we
can once again listen to the words of Blessed John
XXIII on the memorable day of 11 October 1962: At
mes we have to listen, much to our regret, to the
voices of people who, though burning with zeal, lack a
sense of discreon and measure. In this modern age
they can see nothing but prevaricaon and ruin We
feel that we must disagree with those prophets of
doom who are always forecasng disaster, as though
the end of the world were at hand. In our mes,
divine Providence is leading us to a new order of
human relaons which, by human eort and even
beyond all expectaons, are directed to the fullment
of Gods superior and inscrutable designs, in which
everything, even human setbacks, leads to the greater
good of the Church.

Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 84.

If you would like to read more of Evangelii Gaudium,
copies are available for purchase ($10) or borrowing
from the Parish Oce. The Exhortaon is also
available for downloading from the Vacan website.

Communicaon at the Service of an Authenc
Culture of Encounter is the 2014 theme promulgated
by the Holy Father Pope Francis for the 48th World
Communicaons Day. The event will be celebrated on
25th May 2014 throughout the Catholic Church in
Australia. To celebrate the occasion, the Australian
Catholic Bishops Conference Communicaons Oce
has created a digital storytelling project entled
Srring Hearts.

Each story is told using digital media, embracing our
online communicaon technologies and social media
to spread our good news stories to the ends of the
earth (Acts 1:8).

Each story is unique, blessed and oenmes a
challenging story of life and faith. The twelve digital
stories are ve to six minute YouTube videos
published on the Srring Hearts website:
www.srringhearts.org.au.

Srring Hearts is a response to the Holy Fathers
message that speaks of social networks as one way to
experience the call to discover the beauty of faith and
the beauty of encountering Christ. In the area of
communicaons we need a Church capable of
bringing warmth and of srring hearts, Pope Francis
said.

Srring Hearts is an online resource for parishioners,
local schools, youth groups and parish councils to
use. In addion to the digital stories, a toolkit of
educaon and parish resources including reecon
quesons, suggested intercessions and homily notes
is available at: www.srringhearts.org.au/toolkit.

Within the cycle of a year, the Church unfolds the
whole of the mystery of Christ, from his incarnaon
and birth unl his ascension, the day of Pentecost,
and the expectaon of blessed hope and of the Lords
return.

In celebrang this annual cycle of Christs mysteries,
the Church honours with special love Mary, the
Mother of God, who is joined by an inseparable bond
to the saving work of her Son. In her the Church holds
up and admires the most excellent eect of the
redempon and joyfully contemplates, as in a awless
image, that which the Church itself desires and hopes
wholly to be.

The fourth meeng of the Forster Tuncurry Parish
Social Jusce Group was held on 30th April 2014 in
the Parish Hall Meeng Room with 4 people sharing a
discussion about compassion.

Dissected from its Lan roots compato sympathise,
compassion means the act of suering with. In
summing up the so called Sermon on the Mount,
Jesus encourages his listeners to be compassionate or
perfect in love, just as the heavenly Father is
(Mahew 5:48). Compassion is the virtue which best
reveals the spirit of the Golden Rule because
compassion requires us to walk in anothers shoes.
The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all
religious, ethical and spiritual tradions, calling us
always to treat all others as we wish to be treated
ourselves. How best can you foster compassion in
your own life? How will you translate compassion into
social jusce?.....

The Social Jusce Group is open to the community
and all are invited to the next meeng on Wednesday
