Accessing Workbooks
Oracle Discoverer has two workbook functions that allow users to conduct queries and
generate reports:
• Create workbooks and conduct ad hoc queries (covered in the Advanced Oracle
Discoverer course and training material)
To Open a Workbook
1. Select the “Open an existing workbook” icon from the Workbook Wizard pop-up
window.
The lower portion of the Workbook Wizard will open as shown on next page.
The Open Workbook from Database pop-up window will open. This window
lists the available workbooks. For a detailed explanation of each workbook,
please refer to the chapter on “Introduction to Discoverer Workbooks and
Worksheets.”
DWADMIN.PTASTATUS (NON-GB)
DWADMIN.PTASTATUS (GB)
DWADMIN.SUMMARY BY PROJECT
DWADMIN.SUMMARY BY AWARD
5. Select “OK.”
The selected workbook will launch and prompt the user to run a query as
shown below.
6. Choose the preferred Run Query Option from the pop-up window above.
• Selecting “No” allows the user to access one of the other worksheet/report tabs
available in the workbook selected (ex. Salary or Exp. Details report)
• Selecting “Yes” will open the Parameter Wizard for the selected
worksheet/report (The “Summary” report is the default when accessing a
workbook from the Database).
IMPORTANT – If the user has task level access only, the project
number will not appear in the drop down list. The user must enter the project
number in the “Select Project Number(s)” field to access the task information.
10. Enter the award(s) or accept the wildcard (%) in the “Select Award Number(s)”
field.
• Skip this step to retrieve all tasks associated with the project(s) and award(s)
entered.
NOTE: Discoverer will automatically retrieve all tasks a user has access to for
the project(s) and award(s) selected.
1. Field-level
parameters must be
surrounded by
single quotes and be
entered in
UPPERCASE.
2. Multiple values
must be separated
by a comma (,) ‘OCT-FY2001’,’NOV-FY2001’
3. Periods must be
entered in the
Oracle format
shown
• The wildcard (%) cannot be used in the “Select Project Number(s)” field to
locate all projects associated with the award number entered.
Access the Select Values pop-up window by selecting the drop-down arrow next to any
entry field.
Access the task parameter field by selecting the Next button from the Parameter Wizard.
• The default value is the wildcard (%) which retrieves all tasks a user has access
to for the project(s) and award(s) selected in the previous window of the
Parameter Wizard.
Include wildcard characters in your search criteria to search for particular patterns in your
data. You can use the wildcard (%) within a field to represent any number of characters
(including no characters)
• Retrieves all task number combinations beginning with the task entered. Refer to
example below.
End of activity
There are three ways to retrieve the Parameter Wizard after running a query:
The “Refresh Sheet” short cut icon can be used to retrieve the parameter wizard.
Or
Select “Edit Parameter Values” or “Refresh Sheet” from the Sheet Main Menu.
