Liquid Assets, a ninety-minute documentary, tells
the story of essential infrastructure systems:
water, wastewater, and stormwater. These
systems some in the ground for more
than 100 years provide a critical public health
function and are essential for economic
development and growth.

Largely out of sight and out of mind, these aging
systems have not been maintained, and some
estimates suggest this is the single largest public
works endeavor in our nations history.

The free community outreach event includes an
informational reception sponsored by local
professional and community groups, the Liquid
Assets documentary, and a brief presentation on
the state of Virginias water, wastewater, and
stormwater infrastructure.

In addition to our Branch and Section, we are grateful to the

The Virginia Geo-Institute Chapter and the Virginia
Section of ASCE will be hosting ASCE National President
Blaine Leonard at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond on
Thursday April 29, 2010.

The topic for the evening will be "The Future of Civil
Engineering Civil Engineering in 2025". Civil
engineering leaders, assembled by ASCE (and chaired by
Mr. Leonard), have begun to develop a vision for the civil
engineer of 2025 and what roles the civil engineer will play
in addressing future challenges. Some revisions to current
roles could be noticeable in the fields of education and
continuing education, research and innovation, public
policy and responsibility, and leadership.

Blaine Leonard P.E.,
D.GE, F.ASCE

ASCE for nearly 30 years and has served as Zone IV Vice President, Governor of the
GeoInstitute and President of the Utah Section. In 2006, he was awarded the William
H. Wisely American Civil Engineer Award. In 2009, he was named the Utah Engineer of
the Year. Mr. Leonard is currently the Research Program Manager for the Utah
Department of Transportation in Salt Lake City and is licensed in six states.

This is the third straight year that the National President has attended an event
hosted by the Virginia Section or Branch. In 2007, President Dave Mongan spoke at a
Richmond Branch meeting. President Wayne Klotz attended the 2008 Region 4
conference hosted by the Section in Williamsburg.

The event will start with a cash bar at 5:30 P.M. followed by dinner at 6:30 P.M. The
event is $55 per person. Please RSVP to the Jefferson at 804-788-8000.
