MIStructE MIEAust Electoral Region 8 (North Thames) Director, Thornton Tomasetti Ltd Elected Member 2003. My professional experience extends across Europe, Middle East, South-East Asia and Australia; 1996 University of Wollongong, Australia BEng(civil) Hons, 1997-00 BG&E Consulting Engineers, Australia, 2000-06 SKM Anthony Hunts, 2004-06 MSt(IDBE) University of Cambridge, 2012-13 Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Teaching Fellow, 2006- Postawa de Hoog/Thornton Tomasetti. In 2006 co-established a new Structural Engineering Consultancy in London based on an ethos of solid, robust engineering principles and focused on innovation and collaboration. These ideals represent the challenges of our profession today. We must promote and further structural engineering by embracing new tools and searching for others, whilst upholding the core principles from which the vocation is founded. With additional economic pressures it is important to ensure the core values of the Institution are relevant, understood and executed by our members, and monitored. On council I would bring my industry experience and contribute ideas to ensure implementation. As one of the London Directors for Thornton Tomasetti, I help set strategy and direction. I develop the skills of our staff and encourage conventional engineering and building physics techniques whilst pushing the boundaries of new technologies. Promotion of the Institution, particularly to young members, and its relevance to practicing engineers is part of my current role and one I would bring to a role on the Council. My exposure to International Engineering practices and involvement in engineering education will bring depth to discussions on topics relating to the profession.
