My professional experience extends across

SKM Anthony Hunts, 2004-06 MSt(IDBE) University of Cambridge,
2012-13 Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Teaching Fellow,
2006- Postawa de Hoog/Thornton Tomasetti.
In 2006 co-established a new Structural Engineering Consultancy
in London based on an ethos of solid, robust engineering
principles and focused on innovation and collaboration. These
ideals represent the challenges of our profession today. We must
promote and further structural engineering by embracing new
tools and searching for others, whilst upholding the core principles
from which the vocation is founded. With additional economic
pressures it is important to ensure the core values of the Institution
are relevant, understood and executed by our members, and
monitored. On council I would bring my industry experience and
contribute ideas to ensure implementation.
As one of the London Directors for Thornton Tomasetti, I help
set strategy and direction. I develop the skills of our staff and
encourage conventional engineering and building physics
techniques whilst pushing the boundaries of new technologies.
Promotion of the Institution, particularly to young members, and its
relevance to practicing engineers is part of my current role and one
I would bring to a role on the Council. My exposure to International
Engineering practices and involvement in engineering education
will bring depth to discussions on topics relating to the profession.

Elected Member 1999, Fellow 2006
Member, HKIE Joint Structural Division
2005-09 and 2011-.
Currently Professor of Civil Engineering at The Hong Kong University
of Science and Technology. Started civil and structural engineering
career as a lecturer in 1982 working with universities, University of
Hong Kong PhD 1988, University of Cambridge PhD 1991.
I have gained a very good understanding of the Institutions affairs
through my service to the Institution HKIE Joint Structural Division
during the past years, seeking for election to the Council to continue
applying the experience for the Institutions future direction.
With 30 years of experience in structural engineering working as
an educator and a structural engineer closely collaborated with
the industry, I am keen on cultivating young structural engineers
to participate in research work, which will benet structural
engineering practice, the Institution and the society. I continuously
promote mandatory CPD and particularly explain the importance
and benets of life-long learning to young engineers.
To expand the Institutions international coverage, I am keen
on attracting excellent structural engineers beyond the current
existing regions to join the Institution and increasing the number
in membership of the Institution. With the experience of having
served on the Public Relations Committee of HKIE and my
personal connections, I will particularly be interested in introducing
and promoting the Institution to Taiwan and some Asia-Pacic
countries, where there are no Institution members. In addition,
my vision also includes helping the Institution and HKIE-JSD to
achieve the re-development of the corporate membership mutual
recognition.
