DAR ES SALAAM INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Governing Council of the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) is looking for a self-
motivated and results oriented person for the position of Principal of DIT which is a public institution
of Technical Education established by Act No. 6 in 1997.
1. AGE LIMIT Prospective candidates should not have more than 55 years of age by January 2015
2. TENURE The position is for tenure of 5 years, renewable once.
3. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
(a) The Chief Administrative and Academic officer of the Institute responsible to the Council.
(b) To establish and maintain a proper administration of the Institute in accordance with policy
laid down by the Council.
(c) To develop, recommend and advises the Council on academic, infrastructure, human resources
and other strategic plans, policies and procedures.
(d) To organise and direct staffing, compensation, staff development and staff relations in
accordance with policies and guidance given by the Council.
(e) To enforce all by-laws and regulations made by the Council.
(f) The secretary of the Council.
(g) To perform any other duties directed and as delegated by the Council
4. ACADEMIC and PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
(a) Doctorate (PhD) degree in Engineering, Science or other disciplines taught at DIT
(b) Have reached at least a rank of Associate Professor in a recognized higher learning institution.
5. ADMINISTRATION EXPERIENCE and SKILLS REQUIRED
(a) A person of outstanding integrity, academic and administrative experience;
(b) A broad appreciation of scholarship, research and education across all disciplines;
(c) A personal reputation for integrity and creativity of thought;
(d) At least 8 years of teaching experience in related higher institutions.
(e) Have research experience and good publication record.
(f) At least five years of academic administration experience at a senior position (Head of

Department or Dean of Faculty) with the ability or potential to readily carry out the duties and
responsibilities of Principal of DIT
