Traditional teaching is concerned with the teacher being the controller of the learning environment. Power and responsibility are held by the teacher and play the role of instructor (in the form of lectures) and decision maker (in regards to curriculum content and specific outcomes) but all of this began to shift as the world began to adapt to the changes given to us by modernization. Different way on how to educate learners began to rise, like online tutorial and the usage of educational technologies, but the most popular among them is the use of social media. Social media is fast becoming the premier avenue for people to advertise, purchase, meet new people and learn. Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more are hit to the younger generations even older generation because such sites present opportunities for self-expression and friendship building. Youth "play time" in such environments can build skills that they believe will be a foundation for career success in the 21st century. . Education is also part of the whole scheme as more people are opting to get new ideas and take lessons using the various available internet tools and features. Learning through social media is ideal for individuals who wish to keep learning despite their heavy work schedule and hectic lifestyles especially to those people who can avail free WIFI or Internet connection. But for me, Traditional teaching is still the best way to educate learners in this modern era. I only have two arguments that will support my claim and that is social media can mislead people to wrong learning and value and Traditional teaching has the heart. I will first explain my first argument which is social media can mislead people to wrong learning and value. First of all, Social media information is mostly opinion based rather than factual information that is truly proven by research or studies. This information may mislead people to wrong information and may cause misunderstanding and problems. Furthermore the attention to details, attention to pronunciation and grammar, has declined drastically, due to that most of the communication that happens online is not proper. It also has negative effect to the values of the students. The willingness to spend more time researching and looking up good information has reduced, talking with people face to face become harder for them, and the worst is they become more addicted to social media that may lead them to negative things like cyber bullying, risky sexual behavior and many more if not monitored. Now lets move to my second argument which is traditional teaching has a heart. Yes, educating students with the help of social media will help them broaden their minds and explore new things but those things cant provide the magic that personal or human touch can JAY MARK L. do. In traditional teaching you can personally see the growth of your students and guide them in the right path. For me as a future teacher, I want to become a teacher that educate mind but the same time teach them values. Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. by Aristotle, Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education. by Martin Luther King Jr., The aim of education is the knowledge not of facts but of values by William Ralph Inge and To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society. By Theodore Roosevelt, those quotations from those famous educators become my inspiration or my mantra to remind me that I become a teacher not just to give information to students but also to teach those values especially about willingness. Willingness is the most important value that I want my students to learn from me because if you are willing, you will do anything and do your best and the only best way to teach it is through traditional teaching. Thats why traditional teaching is the best method for teaching because it not only teaches you facts but also values that you will bring throughout your life.
