Nitrite Test Kit

(Continued on Reverse Side)

Nitrite Universal Dropwise
Titration
Analytical Procedure
AP-53
SPECIFICATIONS
Method: Titration (Drop Count)
Range: Over 40 ppm as NO
2
Testing Time: 5 minutes
DESCRIPTION
The Nitrite Test Kit, Part Number 420-C0318.88,
was designed with special emphasis on applica-
tions where nitrites are used to inhibit corrosion.
However, the test kit can also be used in other
nitrite-based processes that require control and
monitoring of nitrite concentrations. The simplicity
of this drop-count titration test allows ease of
operation, but still provides high levels of accuracy
in a wide variety of waters.
The small size test kit is durable and self-contained.
The unique chemical packaging allows the user to
perform an analysis without the need for additional
work space.

NITRITE UNIVERSAL DROPWISE TITRATION TEST KIT PROCEDURE
1
Fill the mixing tube up to the
7.5-mL mark with sample.
2
Add two drops of N-1
Indicator (460-S0770). Swirl
to mix. If nitrite is present,
an orange color will devlelop.
3
Holding the dropper bottle
vertically, add N-2 Titrant
(460-S0771), carefully
counting the number of
drops needed to
permanently change the
color to blue (or green).
Swirl to mix.
CALCULATION
ppm as NO
2
= (40) x (n1)
n = number of drops of N-2 Titrant (460-S0771)
used
Note: A sample size other than 7.5 mL can be used to
increase or decrease the range or detection limit of the
test. The concentration of NO
2
is then calculated using the
following formula:
ppm as NO
2
= (7.5/V) x (40) x (n1)
V = Volume of sample size used in mL
N = number of drops of N-2 Titrant (460-S0771) used
