The band name is the only thing on the poster which is a

different colour. This is done to make the title stand out from the
rest of the image, making it clear who the artist is as the poster
design is pretty generic. Also the fact that the title looks
distressed and is in brackets suggests that to this poster, it not
relevant. They want the audience to focus on the photograph and
the album name METEORA. The title Meteora is in thinner,
cleaner font which is the same colour as the filter effect used on
the background, which helps tie it into the theme of the poster.
The photograph used for the
background has a beige filter over
the original image to increase the
contrast between the shaded areas
and highlights, which makes the
image more dynamic and striking to
the audience. For the photograph,
there is a clear divide running
horizontally through the mid-
section of the poster. The divide
between the dark grey floor tones
and the white wall behind the figure
make this poster very eye catching
because of the two heavy blocks of
colour. The separation of colour
helps both the figure and the type-
face stand out due to the reverse
colour as each of their backgrounds.
The photograph is focused on a man spray painting on the ground. Stereotypically spray paint and graffiti is
associated with crime and youths, but here the figure looks professional with his respirator and other various pieces
of equipment positioned around the room. A cable runs from the shot out towards the camera and out of focus. This
almost creates a visual link between the title of the album and the image. The composition of the shot is strange; it
would look more pleasing to the eye if the figure was over to the left of the poster to accommodate the rule of thirds,
but instead they have positioned him slightly to the right of centre frame. This is done to create negative space and
isolate the man. This gives connotation of disorientation and misplacement. With this idea in mind, the audience
assumes that the figure could be a misfit who expresses themselves through art and design in this dull environment.
The location that the figure is
painting is looks old with the
marks on the wall, maybe from
previous pieces of art. The aspect
of the unknown with this
particular image is large,
meaning that the band have
decided to leave both the poster
and album cover to
interoperation.
The writing is all located at the
foot of the poster where it
contrasts to the darker area and
where it doesnt distract from the
image above. But at the same
time it contributes to the impact
of the poster, helping to break up
the blocks of colour making the
poster look more balance.
