underlined that the potential for emission reduction in Indian cement industry is immense and that it can be
a forerunner in this direction! 6e called on the
need for cement industry to respond 8uickly and

alternative enery sources and work more closely
with the Government to create an enablin

&anufacturers 'ssociation$ in his address$ said that cement industry has been the pioneer in savin enery
and fuel and there is plenty of scope to further reduce waste and promote sustainable future! "o achieve
this$ we need to convey and persuade industry to learn and adapt best practices$ he added!

9ne of the major barriers perceived by the Indian cement industry is lack of enablin policy mechanism and
close interaction between cement manufacturers and policy makers$ particularly the state pollution control
boards! "o ease this barrier$ earlier Green Cementech editions have been servin as a platform to brin the
manufacturers # policy makers toether and discuss on various aspects to increase the use of '=< in cement
industry! "his session created opportunities for cement manufacturers to share their views D concerns with
the policy makers and

officials shared their e*periences on the utili-ation of '=< and best practices implemented in international
cement industries! =ollowin the discussions$ there was a unanimous areement on the need for increased
cooperation between waste enerators$ cement plants and pollution control boards for increasin the waste
utili-ation in the industry!

CII # C&' have jointly prepared a white paper on increasin alternate fuel utili-ation in Indian cement
industry! "his report is an outcome of a study carried out by a workin roup comprisin of industry
members and various state +CB officials! "his workin roup visited various cement plants in India # )urope$
understood the present policy barriers and chalked a methodoloy to create enablin policy interventions
that would facilitate increased use of alternate fuels and raw materials! "his white paper will be submitted
to &inistry of )nvironment # =orest for their due consideration and necessary action! "his initiative was
partly supported by Shakti Sustainable )nery =oundation$ a part of Climate;orks =oundation

'nother special interactive session was oranised with policy makers representin Bureau of Indian
Standards (BIS)$ B)) # C+CB members to discuss various policy aspects such as increased fly ash utili-ation$

@,ow Carbon "echnoloy <oadmap for the Indian Cement Industry 0151! "his initiative is jointly developed
by the ;orld Business Council for Sustainable >evelopment (;BCS>):s CSI and the International )nery
'ency (I)')$ in consultation with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Fational Council for Cement and
Buildin &aterials (FCB&) and supported by the International =inance Corporation (I=C)! +olicy # financial
barriers were hihlihted in the technical papers developed to identify suitable technoloy interventions
re8uired to be implemented by the Indian cement industry to contribute to a sinificant emissions reduction
by the year 0151!
