Self drilling self tapping countersunk screw : gauge-thread pitch-length in m m
In tim ber fram ing, helical thread or longer nails can provide additional w ithdraw al resistance.
In steel, shorter screw s can be used provided the thread penetrates the steel fully (after fixing).
Screw ed joints betw een plyw ood and thicker steel are very stiff and sm all differential m ovem ent
caused by construction m oisture can generate excessive screw loads if the screw s are too sm all.
Fasten at 150 m m centres on edges and 300 m m centres on interm ediate fram ing, or use
proprietary form w ork seating and fastening system s.
To avoid staining of concrete if form s are used often, use hot dip galvanised, stainless steel or
alloy nails or screw s as required.
Fixings
Fasteners for use in tim ber or steel fram es are in Table 3. For load inform ation, consult the Ecoply
Plyfloor brochure and N ZS 3603 or AS 1720.1 for further inform ation. U se flathead nails or
countersunk screw s. O ther specialty form w ork fasteners m ay be used subject to perform ance.
Cost effectiveness
Significant num ber of re-uses.
C an be used in m odern optim ised form system s such as table form s.
Suits a range of fram e spacings, concrete pressures and surface tolerances.
C an be used on steel or tim ber form fram e system s.
Is lighter in w eight than im ported or rain forest hardw oods.
Lighter than steel form s of the sam e stiffness.
Moisture and dimensional stability
Form rites cross lam inated construction, m oisture resistant edge sealant and overlay lim its the
tendency of the panel to expand or contract w hen exposed to rain and tem perature changes. This
is very im portant w hen laying form s for large decks. Excessive m oisture can cause panels to sw ell.
Release agents
Apply sparingly. H eavy application m ay cause runs and colour variation in the concrete.

appropriate.
D u ra b ility
Form rite w ill w ithstand the rigours of construction m oisture because of the durable A Type M arine
bond. The hard phenolic surface and highest quality outer veneers ensures a significant num ber of
re-uses w hen good site concreting practices are em ployed. Form rite is untreated plyw ood intended
for aggressive concrete form ing use over a period of a few years. It is not intended as a perm anent

Formrite - Description and purpose
Ecoply Form rite is a high quality overlaid panel designed to provide
strong, stiff, lightw eight support for the form ing of concrete w alls,
floors, roofs, fram es and civil engineering structures. It is produced
predom inately from graded Pinus radiata veneers glued w ith phenol
form aldehyde resin and overlaid w ith a hard durable resin im pregnated
paper to give concrete a sm ooth surface.
Identification
M anufactured and branded to com ply w ith AS/N ZS 2269: 1994 by
C arter H olt H arvey W ood Products, a division of C arter H olt H arvey
W ood Products Australia Pty Lim ited.
To elim inate use of the w rong plyw ood for a given concrete pressure,
Form rite is coded w ith the coding system in the standard (Table 1).
1. O verall thickness
2. N om inal thickness of face veneer.
3. N um ber of plies (veneers) in the panel.
For exam ple, 17-10-7 is a 17m m thick panel w ith a 1.0m m face
veneer and 7 plies. N ote how different the properties of the tw o 17m m
panels are in each direction. M ake sure you identify and use the
correct one for a given design.

Fram ing centres depend on the identification code and the direction
of the face grain, for a given pressure of w et concrete, and the design
lim it decided by the designer. The face grain is parallel to the long
edge of the sheet. D esign is usually deflection controlled using
standard engineering techniques according to the Australian and
N ew Zealand codes using the stresses given in those codes and the
section properties in Table 1.
Allow able concrete pressures for different fram e centres and a
deflection lim it of plyw ood span / 270 or 3m m m ax are in Table 2
based on the use of F11 stress grade. Allow able pressures for F14,
F17 and F22 stress grade Form rite can be obtained by m ultiplying
Table 2 values by 1.14, 1.33 and 1.5 respectively. In N ew Zealand,
only F11 is regularly available.

Lay sheets w ith the face grain (long edge) across the fram ing. Allow a
2 to 3m m expansion gap on all sheet edges. U se polystyrene filler or
joint sealer in the expansion gaps if required.
N o te s:
1. U sed w ith proper release agents, edge and face tapes and
solid perim eter fixing, Form rite can achieve a C lass F5 finish to
N ZS 3114. C lass F5 finish can only be achieved on one pour
per face as the condition of the face after the first pour is out
of our control.
2. Allow for expansion and contraction of the panels to avoid
possible buckling. M oisture uptake can increase the
dim ensions of the panel and an expansion gap of
approxim ately 2m m is recom m ended.
3. R ecom m ended fixing is w ith 50x2.8 or 60x2.8 nails for 17m m
thick Form rite - see Table 3 for fasteners. The practice of 4
nails in each corner does prevent uplift and sliding, how ever
cannot be totally relied on for all classes of finish.
4. Form rite provides a tighter colour and surface consistency and
the num ber of re-uses is generally increased.
5. If the above recom m endations are not adopted, a m axim um
of C lass F4 only can be achieved.

Allow a

joint sealer in the expansion gaps if required.
N o te s:

D u ra b ility
Form rite w ill w ithstand the rigours of construction m oisture because of the durable A Type M arine

S tru c tu re
Form rite is structural plyw ood m anufactured to AS/N ZS 2269 w hich is included in the tim ber
engineering codes in Australia and N ew Zealand. Form rite can be designed using AS 1720 Tim ber
Structures C ode or N ZS 3603 Tim ber Structures Standard. O ther com ponents such as studs,
w alings, props, bearers etc. should be designed using the relevant codes for tim ber or steel as
appropriate.
D u ra b ility
