CLASS HOURS: 6:00-7:15 PM Thursdays

A. DESCRIPTION
This course involves a careful examination of the Lordship of Christ in our lives, and
what it means to bring every area of our lives under the Lordship of Christ.
Emphases are on development of personal character, understanding the proper place
of Christs Lordship in our lives, a deeper grasp of scriptures, and practically living a life
that displays Christ as Lord. This is the second course in Ownership, and so a basic
grasp of what it means to be a disciple is expected for this course. Students should be
growing consistently in being a disciple and making disciples. However, this course also
meets the needs of many students who want to upgrade discipleship skills, and receive
more training to be disciple-makers. This course provides students with a general
understanding of what it means to be a growing disciple of Jesus.

B. ORGANIZATION
This is a lecture-lab course in which topics are presented by the instructor, spiritual
disciplines are explained, and assigned activities are completed by students both during
class and outside of class. Objective and application quizzes are given weekly in the
form of discussions, and there is a final exam.
Basic Discipleship is the prerequisite for this class.

C. COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. To introduce students to the principles of Christs Lordship in your life, to various
spiritual disciplines, and to gain confidence practicing these disciplines.
2. To introduce students to various Expanding Lordship topics and to strive for a
deep personal understanding; to grow in knowledge of these topics.
3. To help students gain the character necessary to live a lifestyle of obedience to
Christ.
4. To orient students to the range of discipleship methods, topics, and applications
for personal growth.

5. To provide students with opportunities to develop godly character, to help others
know Christ, and to implement Gods Word in your life.
6. To learn what it means to die to yourself, so you can actually live.

D. COURSE TOPICS
The course will cover the following topics:
1. The Importance of Gods Word
2. Getting into Gods Word
3. Memorizing Gods Word
4. Meditating on Gods Word
5. The Lordship of Christ
6. Obedience
7. Living by Faith
8. Prayer
9. Biblical Priorities
10. Becoming a Worker
11. Sharing Christ with Others
12. Why the Church?
13. Vision for the World

E. TEXT AND REQUIRED SUPPLIES
1. Required text: Real Purpose of Life by Max Barnett (Books 4, 5, and 6).
The books are $15 for the course.
2. Other Supplies Needed: notebook, Bible (choose a version), verse pack &
blank scripture memory cards (or verse memory app on a smart phone),
journal, ability to listen to .mp3s from the Discipleship Library online.

F. GRADING PLAN
Coursework will be weighted as follows:

1. Read the text, do the assignments
and participate in activities 45%

2. Class discussion 25%

3. Attendance 30%

Weekly Assignments:
A reading will be assigned almost every class period. Each reading will cover an
Expanding Lordship topic. Reading due dates will be given to you for each assignment.
The assignments will be uniform from week to week. You will read the material, interact
with Gods Word, record your thoughts, observations, feelings, and questions, and
come to class prepared to discuss the topic. If you are absent from class when a
reading is due, it will be accepted late and in a written form. An "acceptable" excuse for

an absence is only one which is judged so by the instructor. Due dates will not be
changed because of earlier absences. There will be a weekly verse to memorize.

FINAL EXAM:
The final exam will be to memorize each verse assigned word perfectly. It will be given
at the time shown at the end of the schedule that follows.

ATTENDANCE:
Often in religious circles, our default is that spiritual growth should be easy. We dont
like to call it hard work. We are fine with hard work to train for a marathon, to get onto
the OU Sooners football team, or to get into medical school. After all, none of us want to
have surgery with a doctor who skipped class. Because we want to be fully trained and
worthy of making disciples, this class will be hard work and it requires a commitment of
time, resources, and personal integrity. We want to give the Lord our very best, not
whats left after weve done everything else.

Attendance will be graded as follows:
No absences A+
One absence A
Two absences B
Three or more absences You must repeat this course before moving onto
DECISION MAKING
Any significant tardy or early departure from class will be figured as a half absence.

GENERAL:
Except in cases of actual error, final grades are permanent. The last day to withdraw
from the course is Friday, September 27.

G. CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT
1. No phones are allowed in class unless operating Bible apps or apps that
support our discussion and your note taking.
2. Be courteous to others.
3. Arrive on time.

I. YOUR IDEAS, EVALUATIONS, ETC.
In general, your ideas, comments, suggestions, questions, etc. are welcome. Your
discretion in these matters is expected, however. No part of your grade will be based on
anything other than your coursework and attendance. You are encouraged to take
advantage of instructor office hours for help with coursework or anything else connected
with the course and your progress.

J. SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS

For most students this will not be a "difficult" course. However, there will probably be
some students who did well in academic courses where information was most important
and who will be surprised at the relative difficulty of this course where personal
commitment and spiritual multiplication are most important. So do not think that if you
are a "B" student you will probably get a "B" in this course. You might get an "A" with
relative ease . . . or a "C" with difficulty, and still be (and correctly so) a "B student" in
your information-heavy, mainly lecture-type courses.
