1964
The Beatles I Wanna Hold Your Hand
reaches #1 in the US singles.
This Prompted the so-called British
Invasion of North-American music.
Many young people were obsessed with
The Beatles and their concerts would
sell out extremely fast.
Families enjoyed listening to The Beatles
together and would attend their shows
as a family, unlike today.

1966
Popular television show Star Trek is
debuted on US television.
Star Trek quickly became a much loved
franchise and grew into a huge series of
movies, video games and action gures.
Star Trek was also known as being a family-
friendly television show that households
could gather round the TV to watch.
Children who watched Star Trek when
they were younger carried that through to
later life, creating a large adult fan-base.

1967
The American Basketball Association
(ABA) is formed.
The ABA was watched by thousands as
they saw their favourite teams battle it out
on TV or live.
The ABA later merged with the National
Basketball Association (NBA), bringing
many teams that we know today such as
the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets
(formerly New York), San Antonio Spurs
and Denver Nuggets.
Many families were brought together by
the ABA as they gathered together to
watch their hometown battle against rivals.
1965
American troops touch down in
Vietnam for the rst time.
The Vietnam war was a hard time for
those abroad and at home. Many of the
men in Vietnam were barely over 18 and
didnt want to be there. There was much
opposition to the war at home too.
Many lms and books were released
about time spent abroad such as Full
Metal Jacket.

1969
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin become
thew rst men to walk on the moon.
This event was televised to the masses with
over 600 million viewing in colour on TV.
Many people were left in awe as they
realized what the evolving technology could
do for them.
Families crowded round the TV to see this
groundbreaking and historic event.
Many people stayed home from work,
school and other activities just to see this.
