Illuminating the Treaties That Have Governed U.S.-Indian Relationships

Summary (150 to 300 words)

The article talks about the threat of United States and Indian Nations that
happened around 1790 whit the finality to renew peace with the six Indian
nations and secure the borders from European competitors, all promoted for
president George Washington.

First of all, Washington dispatched his postmaster general to solve the conflict
diplomatically, the threat was successful and the younger American nation was
bounded to make one-time payment to the nations of US$ 10000, plus annual
payment of US$ 4500 in goods, including the calico cloth. The next year to
commemorate the agreement the president Washington commissioned a six-
foot-log wampum belt showing 13 figures with figures representing the
Haudenosaunee. About the so-called Calico Treaty the Bureau of bureau of
Indian Affairs dispatch each year a square yard of cloth per tribal citizen to the
tribes.

Nowadays the threat and motives whereby they accepting the calico cloths is
symbolic, because so many treaty promise was broken by U.S. government
and the fact that they still get the cloth is significant, probably a sign to good
relations and interest to keep the threat without issues between them.

Finally, the discomfort in actual generation from tribal citizen to the tribes is
because the U.S. government keeps sending cloth, but less each year and
lower quality over time. Besides they have broken so many other treaties and
promises involving the citizens lands, sovereignty and human rights. Thats the
motive for elders citizens though the story would be known.

In my opinion, the leaders never should brake a threat did, I mean if people doesnt
respect their deals is possible than antiques troubles come back and cause a bigger
trouble more difficult to solve, for example in the mining in our country some years ago
the companies did threats with the people to can extract ore of their lands, but some
years after the threat they dont respect it and contaminate the environment, and that
is one reasons why nowadays we have many socials troubles with farmers, people
that who dont know exactly their rights. Clearly the government nowadays is stricter
with the mining companies to regulate their agreement.
