ASTROSAT
The AST$-SAT pro.ect is aimed at design, development, fa)rication and launch of an astronomical o)servatory for
studies of cosmic sources& AST$-SAT is envisaged to )e a National -)servatory which will )e availa)le for
astronomical o)servations to any researcher in India& Although most of the o)servation time will )e for the use of
Indian researchers, a part of the AST$-SAT o)servation time will also )e made availa)le to International
astronomical community on a competitive )asis&
AST$-SAT is planned to )e launched )y /olar Satellite 0aunch 1ehicle 2/S013& The life of the satellite has )een
configured for a minimum period of 4 years&

5SAT- is a high power S-)and communication satellite that will )e co-located with 5SAT-"', INSAT-6A and 5SAT-
"* at 7389&The satellite is configured around I-'( )us with a lift-off mass of ''** ,g& It is configured with !xS and
Sx! transponders& The S-)and up and down lin,s have high 5:T and 9I$/ to )e a)le to communicate with smaller
ground terminals& This satellite will also provide a platform for developing technologies such as demonstration of
large unfurla)le antenna in satellites, handheld ground terminals and networ, management techni;ues that could )e
useful in future satellite )ased mo)ile communication applications&
5SAT-A will )e a follow-on satellite planned to )e launched )y the end of "'th <ive year plan&

5SAT-= is a multi-)and satellite carrying payloads in >?<, S-)and, !-)and and (u-)and& The satellite employs the
