Work on the Causeway Alliances base next to the Te Atatu
Pony Club has continued rapidly during the last couple of weeks - other than in the drenching downpours. The perimeter fence is in place and the ofces are ready for staf. The ofce buildings have been brought up from a completed motorway project in Christchurch and were pleased to be able to recycle them for use in Auckland. We have named our base Taupuni, meaning temporary encampment. Thats because well be in the Te Atatu neighbourhood temporarily. When the Causeway Upgrade Project has been completed at the end of 2016, the ofces and fencing will be removed and the Te Atatu Pony Club will return to the area. Along the project itself, we have teams beginning work in several areas. Well keep you up to date with progress so that you know whats going on as we move from the existing layout of State Highway 16 to creating the raised and widened one during the next three and a half years. You can compare the current and new layouts of the motorway in the images below. Around the project this week In Te Atatu we began preparation for an access road from Alwyn Ave down to the Whau River Bridge where works to widen the existing bridge will start. Those of us travelling eastbound into the city may notice work on the left side of the motorway. Thats where the new eastbound lanes will eventually be placed. On the approach to the Great North Rd interchange, take care when exiting at Pt Chevalier at the eastbound of-ramp. Steel barriers are being placed along the right-hand shoulder which will extend the single lane 150m further towards the interchange before it changes back to two exit lanes. The Prime Minister, Rt Hon John Key, turned the rst sod to mark the start of work and was joined by other dignitaries including Hon Gerry Brownlee, Hon Tau Henare and Kaumatua Eru Thompson of Te Kawerau a Maki. Photographer, Greg Kempthorne, captured the action. The sunrise that morning was stunning and was photographed by our Construction Manager. We are keen to be great neighbours for the time we are based in Te Atatu and upgrading the 4.8km stretch of motorway to and from Great North Rd. Feel free to talk to us, tell us what youd like to hear more about, let us know when we could do better and also when were getting things right. Best wishes from all of us, Elizabeth Collins Communications and Stakeholder Manager CAUSEWAY NEWS 1 JUNE 2013 More information www.nzta.govt.nz/ sh16causeway elizabeth.collins@ sh16causeway.co.nz 0800 444 449 (state highways info line)
