Boot st r ap Admi ni st r at i on: Usi ng SAP Management Consol es
For bootstrapping activities like starting or stopping a system or instance,
looking for processes and threads, basic log analysis, SAP recommends to
use one of the two consoles:
SAP Microsoft Management Console
Based on MMC
Works in Microsoft only
SAP Management Console
Java browser applet
Runs on all platforms
Both consoles have nearly the same look & feel, and functionality, and will
be supported in future.
This chapter will focus on SAP MC.
All funcitionalities are also available with
the well known SAP MMC.

SAP MC (Management Consol e)
With NW 7.1, SAP ships the SAP MC with nearly the same
functionalities like SAP Microsoft Management Console .

during first usage. It runs out of the box and independent of
the managed system and OS.
To start the SAP MC, call http://<host>:5<InstNr>13

Therefore remaining configuration tasks will be kept to a minimum.
Its template based structure allows for instance to configure the AS
Java with minimum resource requirement. Additionally, onl y
definitely required services and applications are started.
Is Required for VM and UME parameter settings or instance profile.
Is used for nearly all main configuration tasks like configuration of
logs, applications, managers, services, instances and secure store.
ConfigTool is started via
<inst-dir>\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat (Win)
<inst-dir>/j2ee/configtool/configtool.sh (Unix)
