Document revision 1.01

The objective of the present document is to explain the steps necessary to establish a
GOOSE application between an F650 and an UR relay.

It is always a good practice to first configure transmission GOOSEs in all devices and
then start configuration of reception GOOSE.

In this document the following steps will be performed :
I. Configure the UR to transmit GOOSE messages
II. Configure the F650 to transmit GOOSE messages
III. Configure the F650 to receive GOOSE messages
IV. Configure the UR to receive GOOSE messages

Background information

IEC61850 GOOSE is an interface for peer-to-peer communication between devices. It
acts as a translator between the internal variables of IEDs and the organized model
presented by the standard.

The elements within the relays have to be configured properly. Then, the IEC61850
standard can interface with the device on one hand and the outer world on the other
hand.

In the configuration that follows, in order to be able to send statuses of the relay through
GOOSE message, first we have to configure the mapping of desired statuses to
IEC61850 elements. In other words, we have to map the relay binary information to
GGIO (General Inputs and Outputs).

The received information will also be received in generic IEC61850 location. We
have to map this to relay internal information.

In summary, we not only have to configure the exchange of GOOSE messages but we
also have to configure what is going to be sent (mapping) and what is being received.

2
I. Configuration of Transmission GOOSE in the UR

1. Go to Settings->Product Setup->Communications->IEC 61850->Server
Configuration, modify IEDName, change Include NON_IEC Data to
Disabled, change Server Scanning to Enabled.

2. Enable Configurable TX GOOSE in UR, set the Ethertype APPID and
GOOSEID and define the transmission Data Set. Go to Settings->Product Setup-
>Communications->IEC 61850->GSSE / GOOSE Configuration-
>Transmission->TX Configurable GOOSE. The maximum number of elements
in each transmitted GOOSE is 64.

.

3. Configure Mapping of the outgoing GOOSE signals (the signals send via
GOOSE are mapped through GGIO1 Logical Node). Go to Settings->Product
Setup->Communications->IEC 61850->GGIO1 Status Configuration. In this
example GGIO1 Logical Node has been configured to have 64 signals but only
four signals has been done. These will be the signals sent via GOOSE message.
3

4. Create ICD file in order to import it in the Enervista 650 Setup software. In
order to do this, right-click mouse button and select Create ICD File. Then
save the ICD file to disk.

4
II. Configuration of Transmission GOOSE in F650

5. Go to Setpoint->Inputs/Outputs->Remote Comms

6. Enable GOOSE communication

7. Open IEC 61850 Configurator menu in Enervista 650 Setup software.

5
8. In IEC 61850 Configurator we will start the configuration offline will the
default project then we will save the project on disk and send it to the device.
Select File->Open IEC 61850 file from disk.

9. Select file default.iec.

6
10. Save the project to another file, specific to the F650 device you will be
configuring. Every F650 device will have a separate *.iec project file.

11. Go to ICD/CID tab and in Communication->SubNetwork->ConnectedAP-
>Address modify the IP address and netmask.

7
12. In ICD/CID tab click on the IEDName (the default value is GEDevice) and
modify its value. IEDNames should be different for each device in the network.

13. Go to GOOSE Transmission tab and select the pre-configured TX GOOSE
application (F650_GOOSE1). This application has 8 signals already configured.

8

14. Modify the GOOSE ID, in this example we set it to F650_24_GOOSE1. Every
device should have different GOOSE ID in its transmission GOOSEs.

15. Remove unnecessary data from sending Data Set and add more data if needed.
The quality flags (q) are not used in GOOSE applications between GE devices,
however these flag are used in GOOSE application with other vendors. In this
example we remove all q flags from the Data Set and we added two more inputs
from Logical Node rouGGIO1. In order to add elements to the Data Set click on
the device icon in the sub-window DataSet Sources go to the desired Logical
Node and using mouse drag-and-drop the element to the Data Set on the right.

9

Save the *.iec project on disk and export *.ICD file and save it to disk.

10

16. Configure the mapping of outgoing signals to rouGGIO1 Logical Node. Go to
Setpoint->Relay Configuration

17. In Relay Configuration go to Remote Outputs tab and go down the list to
Rem GOOSE Dig Out signals. These signals are mapped to rouGGIO1
Logical Node and the user can configure any internal indications to them. In this
example we previously had configured GOOSE TX message with first six
indications from Logical Node rouGGIO1. Now we will map internal signals to
these indications.

11

12
III. Configuration of Reception GOOSE in F650

18. Open IEC 61850 Configurator menu in Enervista 650 Setup software.

19. In IEC 61850 Configurator open the project we previously saved for the F650
device. Select File->Open IEC 61850 file from disk.

20. Select file correct project file

13
21. Go to GOOSE Reception tab and on the top-left white sub-window right-click
with mouse. Then select the option Add IED to import *.ICD file.

22. Select from disk the ICD file that we previously created for the UR device.

14

23. The software will show GOOSEs available in the UR device. GOOSE Fixed is
a special GOOSE that can be used between GE devices only
1
.

Note on F650s Remote Inputs:
The following internal variables are available in F650 to map incoming GOOSE
signals:
Remote Inputs
rinGGIO1 Inputs

There are 32 Remote Inputs of Boolean type and can be used in order to map binary
states or particular bits from any data which type is BitString (for example
XCBR.ST.Pos is BitString2).

There are 32 rinGGIO1 Inputs of Boolean type that can be used in order to map
binary states. There are also 8 rinGGIO1 Inputs of type Float32 and 8 rinGGIO1
Inputs of type Integer32 that can be used to map Float or Integer analogue incoming
signals.

1
A short description of GOOSE Fixed is included in chapter VI of this manual.
15

The following picture shows the naming used in F650 relay to distinguish between
different types of remote inputs:

24. Click on application GOOSE1 and go down to the lowest level to see all data
available in the incoming GOOSE. In this example we see fours signals we have
configured in the UR in TX Configurable GOOSE application. You can select
the elements from the lowest level and using drag-and-drop technique with the
mouse map the desired to Remote Inputs or to rinGGIO1 (Remote GOOSE
Digital Inputs).

The F650 relay can subscribe to a maximum of 16 different RX GOOSEs.
16

Save the .iec project:

Send IEC 61850 configuration to the device:

17

25. Configure the mapping of incoming signals in the Relay Configuration. Go to
Setpoint->Relay Configuration

26. The rinGGIO1 indication (Remote GOOSE Digital Inputs) are called internally
Rem GOOSE Dig Inp x and Remote Inputs are called internally Remote
Inputs. In this example we previously mapped to signals from incoming
GOOSE into indications of rinGGIO1, then we will be using Rem GOOSE Dig
Inp x. As an example we map these two incoming signals to LED15 and
LED16.

18
The GOOSE configuration in F650 is finished, now restart the device.

27. In order to see whether GOOSEs are being received from the remote device or
too see the values of Remote GOOSE Digital Inputs go to menu Actual-
>Inputs/Outputs->Remote Inputs and then Remote Devices or Remote
GOOSE Digital Inputs.

It is strongly recommended that *.iec configuration files for each F650 relay be saved
on the PC where Enervista 650 Setup has been installed.
19
IV. Configuration of Reception GOOSE in UR

28. Configure Remote Device in UR. Go to Settings->Inputs/Outputs ->Remote
Devices. In this example we configure only one Remote Device, which will be
F650 relay. In Remote Device 1 ID we have to put the GOOSE ID of the F650
relay, which in this example is F650_24_GOOSE1. The ETYPE APPID has
to be exactly as the Ethertype App ID that was configured in TX GOOSE in
F650. Modify the value of Remote Device 1 DATASET and set it to
GOOSEin1 which is the first incoming Data Set in UR.

29. Configure the exact format of the incoming GOOSE message. Go to Settings-
>Product Setup->Communications->IEC 61850->GSSE / GOOSE
Configuration->Reception->RX Configurable GOOSE and in the first RX Data
Set configure exactly the same number of signals that are present in GOOSE
transmitted by F650 relay. The format of each element should match. In TX
GOOSE in F650 we previously configured six digital signals then in the
incoming Data Set in UR we must also put six digital signals. Digital signals
maps in UR into indications GGIO3.ST.Indx.stVal

20

30. Configure Remote Inputs in UR (mapping of incoming GOOSE signals into
internal variables Remote Inputs). Go to Settings->Inputs/Outputs ->Remote
Inputs. In this example Remote Inputs 5 and 6 will be coming from F650. For
every Remote Input the user has to specify from which Remote Device it is
coming and which element (item) it is in the incoming Data Set. In this example
we are mapping to Remote Input 5 the item 1 (this is Remote GOOSE Dig
Out1 = PH IOC1 HIGH A OP in F650) and to Remote Input 6 the item 5
(this is Remote GOOSE Dig Out5 = LOCAL OPERATION MODE status
of LOCAL/REMOTE switch on the front panel).

The GOOSE configuration in UR is finished, now restart the device.

V. Informational note on Fixed GOOSE application

There exists a possibility to use Fixed GOOSE communication both in UR and F650
relays.

Description of Fixed GOOSE:

it can be used in order to exchange binary status data only
2

it can be used between GE devices only
3

it has fixed format of message which consists of 32 + 64 bit pairs
both UR and F650 relays for Fixed GOOSE use the same Remote Inputs and
Remote Outputs as for GSSE applications
4

When adding ICD files of GE relays to GOOSE Reception part in IEC 61850
Configurator the tool always shows that GOOSE Fixed is available in GOOSE
Publisher.

Nevertheless in order to use Fixed GOOSE it has to be explicitly enabled in the
GOOSE publishers device.

Both in the UR and F650 relays Configurable GOOSE and Fixed GOOSE can be used
at the same time.

2
Configurable GOOSE permits to send/receive other data types, e.g. floating point, etc.
3
In order to communicate with IEDs from third party vendors Configurable GOOSE should be used
4
In UR the Remote Outputs for Fixed GOOSE or for GSSE are called Remote Outputs DNA Bit Pairs
and Remote Outputs UserSt Bit Pairs, the Remote Inputs for Fixed GOOSE or for GSSE are called
DNA-1 DNA-32 and UserSt-1 UserSt-32.
In F650 Remote Outputs for Fixed GOOSE or for GSSE are called DNA1 DNA32 and UserSt 1
UserSt 64. The mapping of Fixed GOOSE signals in F650 can only be done into Remote Inputs, it
cannot be done into rinGGIO1 inputs.
