How many other planets do you know?

Do you know their location in space?

The Solar System consists of the Sun, eight planets, five dwarf planets,
around 173 moons and billions asteroids, comets, meteoroids and other
objects.
Listen, read and complete:

1. THE SUN

The main star of the Solar System is the Sun. It’s the biggest
object in our solar system. All of the planets in our solar
system orbit around the sun.

The Sun is around 4 billion (1) ________ old. It is made of gases

called hydrogen and helium. It is very hot. The sun is 6,000 degrees
Celsius. A REALLY hot day on Earth is only 38 (2) ___________ Celsius.

Our sun is very important to us. It gives us light and heat.

2. MERCURY – Planet closest to the Sun

Mercury is very close to the Sun. It’s the smallest (3) _________ in our solar
system. Mercury is about the same size as our Moon.

Mercury travels around the Sun faster than any other planet. That is how
it got its
(4) ________. In ancient Roman mythology, Mercury was the messenger of
the gods

3. EARTH - The Water Planet

Seventy percent of the Earth's surface is covered by (5) _________. The

remaining 30 percent is covered by mountains, volcanoes, deserts, plains
and valleys. Earth has an atmosphere made up of many different gases,
mainly nitrogen and oxygen. The atmosphere gives us air to breathe.

The Earth orbits around the Sun. It takes one year to go around the Sun
one complete time. The Earth also rotates, or spins, on its axis. It takes
one (6) ______ to spin around one complete time.
