Explore the art of fiction
at innovative newshow
ARTIST Richard Ken-
ton Webb of Siddington,
Cirencester has always en-
joyed crime fiction. Sherlock
Holmes, Morse and Walland-
er are a few of his favourites.
Richard is programme lead-
er of the drawing & print de-
gree at the University of the
West of England in Bristol.
Back in November 2012, he
took a group of his students
to Belgium. By the end of
the trip, he had 15 drawings
that felt like a crime story
inspired by English coast-
al walks, standing stones,
Cotswold hills, London
suburbia, Blackheath and
Greenwich.
Richard decided to send his
Belgian drawings to a friend,
Joanne Reardon Lloyd, who
is also a writer and associate
lecturer in creative writing
at the Open University.
Richard has transformed
the drawings into power-
ful linocuts which bring the
landscapes and characters
to life, and Joanne has inter-
preted them to create a dra-
matic story which invites the
viewer to become detective
with the text and images pro-
viding the clues.

Corinium Museum in
Cirencester from Saturday,
September 20.
Richard has always re-
sponded to land and place.
He is fortunate to have won
numerous travel scholar-
ships and residencies over
the years, the most recent of

colour. He went to the other
side of the world to investi-
gate yellow. This resulted in
his yellow series, remaining
there for a 2015 show.

and her poetry has been pub-
lished by Beautiful Dragons
Press.
Her short stories have ap-
peared in several antholo-
gies, including The London
Magazine.
Still Life with Black Birds is
on at the Corinium Museum
in Cirencester from Septem-
ber 20 to October 18. Richard
and Joanne will be in the gal-
lery from 2-3pm on Saturday,
September 20, followed by a
talk from 3-4pm.

rister, Morganhall, as
they try to piece together
the defence. The play is
set in 1959, when the
death penalty was still
enforced in England.
This is a broad, hilari-
ous comedy for which
both actors are perfectly

Blues guitarist makes a terrific
return for anniversary concert
KEITH THOMPSONS new
album Catch The Fire has
been spinning non-stop on
my CD deck since his show-
case gig at Brewery Blues in
Cirencester on Friday.
The Cheltenham-based
blues guitarist is always a
welcome guest here and was
chosen to celebrate the fifth
anniversary of John Drum-
monds first Brewery Blues
concert back in 2009. Backed
by his regular cohorts, Roy
Adams and Neil Simpson,
Thompson debuted tracks
from his eighth and to
these ears best album.
The bar was immediately
set high by the slinky shuffle
of Money, the slow burning
highlight Crazy and the up-
tempo Paid My Dues with its
serious fret-melting guitar
runs. On the LP, Thompson
trades licks with blues heav-
yweight Buddy Whittington
as well as young blues rock
tyro Laurence Jones. And
it was on one of those new
numbers Getting Ready for
the Burn that Thompson
playfully dipped into the
vaults of classic rock riffs.

in a multi scurry, or even take a
gun dog test with him.

unusual breeds in the
minor breeds tent and
watch them demonstrat-
ing how they work in the
gun dog clinic arena.

happening in the tent
all day with obedience,
hounds, minor breeds
and plenty more demon-
strating their high level
of training.
Then there is the ever
popular Falconry Vil-
lage. A multitude of native and
worldwide birds of prey just
waiting for their chance to fly.
The village encompasses a fly-
ing arena, an indoor training
arena, specialised stalls, static
displays and resident expert fal-
coners.

hawks, and hot dogs; Potty
Parrots are there again as are
historical re-enactment teams

Chainsaw carvers, creating
works of art out of lumps of
wood; Mark Lloyd and his team
of chefs demonstrating country-
side recipes; shooting with air
guns, clay shooting guns or bows
and arrows; fair rides for the
children and a bar for the adults.

or ferret racing, painting a pot or
paint balling.
