Conservation of wildlife in UAE.
Outside the urban life in UAE lies a very unique and delicate environment consisting of different flora and fauna. This environment is endangered due to our interference. Different things are being done to conserve wildlife. A few organisations doing a wonderful job at this are:
> Emirates Wildlife Society, in association with the World Wide Fund, creates protected areas to preserve the UAEs impressive biodiversity. One of the organisations most high-profile projects is a three-year programme to conserve marine hawksbill turtles. Anyone wanting to support the cause can purchase an adopt a turtle pack, the proceeds of which will be used to further the project. EWS-WWF also offers numerous other opportunities for the public to participate in their work, such as the fish finder initiative, where volunteers can help the society raise awareness about the dangers of overfishing in the UAE.
> The Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, has been working for environmental protection, sustainable development and wildlife conservation in Abu Dhabi. The EAs greatest success story so far is having brought the Arabian Oryx back from the brink of extinction through protection
> Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife. This Sharjah-based facility conserves endangered wildlife. It is also undertaking research into the mammals, reptiles, freshwater fish, amphibians and invertebrates in the Arabian Peninsula.
Conservation of energy:
Energy is a very important resource indeed! It plays an important role in all our lives. UAE has been trying it's best to conserve energy:
>Dubai: The civic body on Sunday announced that it has launched an energy efficiency project that will save as much as 20 per cent of electrical consumption within the next three years To conserve energy, the municipality will replace the lamp posts in beaches, parks and markets with solar-powered ones. Once the project is implemented, it will save an estimated total of Dh12, 323,000.
> Abu Dhabi: Nearly a third of the UAE's greenhouse gas emissions, which are produced by burning conventional fossil fuel, come from desalination plants. Plans to create these plants running on renewable energy had been set in motion a few months ago by Abu Dhabi's clean energy company Masdar.
> With solar power being one renewable energy source, the power hungry northern emirates and islands like Sir Bani Yas have started powering wind energy...
Conservation of water:
Almost 80 per cent of the UAEs land is a desert environment with limited ground water and as such, conservation of water is critical. A few things UAE is doing are:
> Around four years ago, the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF) and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), launched the Heroes of the UAE water campaign, urging UAE residents to adopt simple tips to reduce their water wastage. > An organisation which also helps water conservation is the ADFCO- Abu Dhabi Food Conservation Organisation . > Out of all the emirates Sharjah is the emirate that saves the most amount of water.
> Unilever and Lulu Group have launched a joint water conservation campaign on the occasion of World Water Day. The campaign which will empower consumers by providing them with a set of educational and practical tools aims to reach 20,000 households and achieve water savings of 864,612,000 gallons.
Conclusion-
All these environmentalists and organisations have been doing their work to conserve the environment, but it shouldn't be only them. Each one of us should do our job and work towards a cleaner and healthier environment. It can be simple things, like turning of the light or tap! But each one of us should cooperate. With all our efforts together; it'll make a great difference for our future generation.
