Utilizing search engines

So much information is on the web, its mind boggling. Thankfully we have search
engines to sift through them and catagorize them for us. Unfortunatly, there is
still so
much info that even with these search engines, its often a painstakingly slow
process
(something comparable to death for a hacker to find e!actly what you"re looking
for.
#ets get right into it.
$ use google.com as my primary search engine because it presently tops the charts
as far as
the sites that it inde!es which means more pertinent info per search.

'ust because someone speaks another language doesn"t mean they dont have anything
useful to say. $ use translation tools like the ones found at
http())babelfish.altavista.com
and
http())world.altavista.com
to translate a few key words $ am searching for. *e specific and creative because
these tools arent the most accurate things on the planet.

These days everything is about ---. .e have to deal)w S/0 (search engine
optimization which seems like a good idea on paper until you do a search for toys
and get 1 pornsites in the first %2 results. Using a sites directory will
eliminate that. 3ou can narrow your search down easily by looking for the info in
specific catagories. (&S google ,0/S have directories, they"re at(
directory.google.com
4. 5ere are some tips that google refers to as 6advanced6
7. 6!!!!6 ) will look for the e!act phrase. (google isnt case sensitive
*. 8! ) will search for something e!cluding a certain term
9. filetype(!!! ) searches for a particular file e!tention (e!e, mp4, etc
,. 8filetype(!!! ) e!cludes a particular file e!tention
/. allinurl(! ) term in the url
:. allinte!t(! ) terms in the te!t of the page
;. allintitle(! ) terms in the html title of that page
5. allinanchor(! ) terms in the links

#ets say you"re looking for an mp4 player but only want to spend up to -C2. .hy
swim through all the othersD E&4 player -2..-C2 The + periods will set a numeric
range to search between. This also works with dates, weights, etc

/ver type in a search and see something like this(
6The following words are very common and were not included in your search(6
.ell, what if those common words are important in your searchD 3ou can force
google to search through even the common terms by putting a G in front of the
denied word.

$t amazes me when $ use other peoples &9s that they dont have their google search
preferences saved. .hen you use google as much as $ do, who can afford to not have
preferencesD They"re located on the right of the search bo!, and have several
options, though $ only find + applicable for myself...

resolution preference, and 1@"s the default

only know the name of a prog, or are looking for 7## of a particular file (ie.
you"re ,#ing tunes something like I.mp4 would list every mp4.

similar to the @ already displayed. $f you like, you can repeat the search with

Use the engine to its fullest. $f you dont find your answer in the web section,
try the group section. 5ell, try a whole different search engine. ,ont limit
yourself, because sometimes engines seem to intentionally leave results out.
e!. use google, yahoo, and altavista. search the same terms... pretty close,
rightD Bow search for disney death. :unny, altavista has plenty of disney, but no
death...hmmm.

copied a few google help pages and thinks its useful info6 then $ will show you
.53 (besides accuracy, speed, and consistancy finding info on 7B3T5$B; its nice

$ find that I works better for me than trying to guess other peoples mis8
spellings.
The same method applies for ebooks, games, movies, S., anything that may be on an
